(2017) PG Paul Scruggs to Xavier

I don't think they've planned anything together and are making their decisions independently. I'd honestly prefer we wait until the spring if we add a 5th to the class.

I agree!! They aren't both coming lol although if I was Xavier I'd be sweating bullets!! He's been favored there for awhile now and hasn't pulled the trigger. I think if anyone got him besides them it'd be us, but I see it as a 80/20 chance. Their friends and both have said in the past they'd like to pull the trigger before the signing period. Early one obviously or that wouldn't have made sense, but it seems a lot of IU fans are getting their hopes back up w him, which will lead to disappointment. I'm fine w Wilkes and maybe Waters, but I don't see PG as a big need like others. I think we can wait until 2018 class to get our guy. Newkirk, CuJo, Green & RoJo will be just fine.

I'm of the same thought myself but that said I would love to see IU get either one and especially Scruggs if he's willing to accept he's not going to be an out and out PG early in his career at IU if he were to come.

I think IU is fine at PG for this season and next but as much as I like Green, until he proves it I think of him as a very good career backup PG.

While I think Scruggs at the NBA is without a doubt a PG. In college because of his size, strength and general skill-set he can be more valuable just being on the court especially in Crean's system. The bouncing back and forth between PG and SG shouldn't be an issue and actually it should be benefit.

So unless IU can get one of the truly elite 2017 PG's or Scruggs or Waters then the scholarship is better off used elsewhere and take a PG in 2018.

I for one think IU needs to start adding some talent to this class, sorry I'm just not impressed with IU's recruiting with too many depth players instead of impact talent. Don't get me wrong it can't just be about elite talent and the glue guys and specialists are needed but what IU needs is the game changers to go with those guys.  This class has IMO and no disrespect but one prospect who is nothing more than a career 3rd stringer at best, another who should be Red-Shirt(ed) then from there be a 3rd stringer who in time becomes a solid to good 2nd stringer.  The other prospect in the fold I have faith in to be atleast a very good player who at worst should be a good backup to and become a solid starter in time but one who might also in time make that Oladipo/OG type jump but that can't be counted on happening as most of those types just don't pan out like that often and most of them bust or play to there ranking than become potentially top players like them.

What IU really needs is an elite Center to replace Thomas Bryant.  De'Ron Davis is a player that I like very much but what I would like to see is for him to backup Bryant this season, backup a stud one and done next season and then have him take over the starting job as a Junior.

I get the impact player thing, but TB is almost definitely gone, but we aren't sure about OG or JBJ if either or both stay & Wilkes comes then we have that. De'Ron Davis & CuJo have that kinda potential to be impact guys as well, but we won't know until this season. Another wildcard is Hartman, which he is a impact player just not the star kind. I'd he can't play this year then it sets next years team up better. I understand the concern's about the 3 stars, but I'm very high on Moore and think as a backup he can do some damage next year. If he can give us 5 & 3 a game and solid D that's awesome. I'm also higher on Juwan Morgan than most fans as well, so maybe that's why I ain't worried. I think we are set up very nicely for the future and now as long as we get Wilkes. Like you said though unless its Waters or Scruggs I don't want just any PG, so its one of those two or nothing for me. Save that scholly for a grad kid next spring. TB, Priller, OG, Hartman(depending on length of time out), & probably one of JBJ, Gelon or an unexpected transfer is my guess like most for our open schollys.

Deron Davis is not going to be a backup 2 seasons. Not unless something is off with his development. How many top 50 players even come off the bench their first year. Let alone their second.

Right now IU either needs an impact big to go with Davis or a PG for the future

Exactly!! If our coach was anyone but Crean I'd say Davis & TB would start together, but coach loves to play fast so it probably won't happen, but I'm sure they will play together quite a bit this year. No one seems to think CuJo will make that leap too, but I say he's a starter next year regardless unless JBJ comes back, but if not I see him & RoJo starting along w Newkirk as of now if Wilkes comes it complicates things. Anything could happen though this time last year as high as I was on OG I'd laugh if you would've said he had a shot at a one and done season, so instead of making predictions anymore I'm just gonna wait for the season and enjoy our chase for banner #6!!!

I don't think Deron could start at PF in Creans system. How well does he shoot the 3 ball?

After the Derby Classic Davis said in his interview Crean was on him to practice the trail and corner threes. I'd say that's a good indication Crean wants him to develop more into a stretch 4. I don't think IU has the personnel to have him playing alongside TB for most of the game though.

The only time Crean has done that kinda lineup was with Cody & C Wat, but C Wat could also shoot the 3 better than most of our guards besides Jordy. I'm in agreement that we don't have the personnel to even try it specially with Hartman out, but if we did I think Davis's 3 ball would be okay enough to do it. He's not a C Wat type shooter or even Max, but he's not a bad shooter. Just don't have the luxury of trying it sides maybe 5 minutes a game.

This ship had sailed quite some time ago but do we know why there was a disconnect?  Team and/or coaching staff Personalities?  Just didn't want to play at IU?  It seemed early on we made a serious effort to recruit Scruggs and then our effort faded - our choice/his choice?

From what I've heard, we prioritized Waters and Xavier prioritized Scruggs. I could be wrong. Pap?
