It may just be the pessimism from today, but am I the only one that thinks Penn State still stays above us with a loss to Minny? It would certainly help but I can see the committee just dropping us both with PSU ahead.

IMO, committee will be fine with 3 B1G teams. Probably the minimum minus something crazy happening. And they won’t particularly care about the 3rd. PSU losing makes IU an easy pick.

Do you mean 4 teams?

IF IU doesn’t make the playoffs I want to say it… I don’t think it would be the worst thing to play Ole Miss in a bowl game. Granted we would probably be underdogs but also would think they (ole miss) would have opt outs and more reps in practice for our young guys. I think it would be awesome to feel like we have a decent shot at a bigger bowl win

Those CFP games consume six bowls. Why not just let them stand on their own -- with no bowl connection -- and cut six of those other low-level bowls.

If we don't make the playoff, I'd still be fine with a trip to the Fiesta or Rose bowl. Granted, it'd be devalued somewhat because the better teams are in the playoff. But it's better than the Gator or Pop-Tarts bowl.

Just seems silly that if you win the Rose Bowl, you then play in the Cotton Bowl. Or if you win the Fiesta Bowl, you then play in the Orange Bowl.

Wholeheartedly agree. Let the playoffs be the playoffs. March madness if you will. Great job, you’re a playoff team. But if you’re gonna leave out 1 loss teams, give them the honor of competing for a prestigious bowl championship. You’re telling me if Georgia or Alabama wins their first round game they care about a Rose Bowl win when they’re heading to a semi-final for the national championship? Negative. Just a step in the process. But give Army, Boise St., South Carolina, Ole Miss, IU (potentially, hope not, but still) the chance to cap a great season with a Rose bowl win.. different story. That means something.

Best bad day in program history?

Yes. I’ll be the spin doctor on this one. There’s only one undefeated team. We secured the best quality loss in the country on our resume today. We are going to drum Purdue and punch our ticket to the playoffs. Better to have gotten a loss out of the way now than have the pressure of being undefeated on top of being the best team in program history in the first ever 12 team playoff in a new coach’s first year.

Wow IUFB. Hats off to you.

SOS is now 51

Notre Dames is 78

We were wondering how this worked on here in a discussion last week. I didn’t know if that was a moving metric and would improve after playing OSU. Helps that our wins have gotten better records since as well. This was the one number everyone was using the hate on us.

Indeed it was, which is why they always used the ESPN number of 106 since that was the worst. Other calculations had IU more in line with some of the other teams even before the OSU game
