Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Bingo.

Look at how Scott identified Cig, quickly built a relationship and trust with Cig, and closed the deal.  It seems the only other person who was brought in to play a role in the hiring process was Pam.  That's perfect, two people.  The donors are greatly appreciated, but they need to realize they're only good at the $ aspect and any further involvement is detrimental.

Cig continues to reference Scott and also Pam as the reason he is here.  This is how things should work.

Thankfully Quinn didn't have any best pals that coach football.

QB probably also didn't anticipate Cignetti going 11-1, turning us into a football school, and making basketball irrelevant well into December lol. I, for one, am far less angsty about us being mediocre at basketball this year with highly relevant football left to play.

So, nice deflection.

And , you’re not going to debate that time frame because you don’t have a leg to stand on.

Which of these behaviors would you put up with?

Don’t recall any guys in the RMK era who got away with not going to class.

Don’t know of any player who tried to physically assault a coach.

Provide some verifiable evidence on these behind the scenes issues.

And, I was a student when the whole Tommy Baker thing went down. He didn’t last long in Bloomington

Relax. We had players running over each...and multiple arrests occurred with more than one coach - not named Sampson - when leading the program. Sure, there were some "issues..." but there were no arrests and they could've been fixed. Further, we had high character guys coming in like Roth, Pritchard and Elson that he recruited.

Also, he's had no issues at Houston while putting up a championship program.

From a Football perspective (soccer to you animals), high school is not really a place to make your mark if you want to be a professional anymore.  If anything lot’s of academies asking players not to join high school teams.  I would imaging that if kids want to play for their high school it won’t really matter from one school to the next.

Agree, it helps.  FB is the only sport that really matters revenue wise, and watching the program being run properly has been a total pleasure.  We'll have ups and downs going forward, future seasons won't always be THIS good, but it's nice knowing we are putting forth a competent best effort.  That's all we can ask for.  It's awesome.

This bball season is almost certainly toast.  It's very unlikely we compete for the conference.  I think we'll play better and make the tourney, but have a not so great seed.  Woody has a well documented history of losing big on neutral floors, meaning we probably can't do anything in the tournament.  Not good, and it doesn't have to be this way.

Doesn't make a ton of sense to me. She'd live in Boston but not Bloomington. Idk that I buy that one.

Not sure I understand your comment. There are a lot of people who want to live in cities and not towns, even gorgeous college towns. And there are people who want to live in rural areas, not cities.

Obviously I think she should live in Bloomington ; )

I don't know.  The drug stuff was true and most of that team stopped going to class and our APR was terrible (lost two schollies IIRC).  Maybe Tom could have kept one or two more guys than he did if he really wanted, but I can't blame him for cleaning house.

I don't understand why Kelvin recruited some of those guys.  He's been great at Houston.  Personally I don't hate Kelvin like a lot of people.  If I were IU I would have tried to make it work with him by tearing up those dumb call/text records and telling him that he needs to recruit a team that will keep up the APR and not break so many rules.

He recruits coming in were like Elston and Pritchard. So it was going to be better but we never got t see the school slit it's own throat and we haven't been good in 15 years.

The APR issue was non-existent until they fired Sampson. At that point several of the players stopped going to class that second semester because they saw the writing on the wall....hence the failing grades.

That's fair, but it still indicates some character issues.

Woodson claims indiana is elite and will play the elite yet he lines up a complete joke of a preseason schedule. All these other top programs like Duke and auburn are playing against like four top 15 teams in the preseason. Woodson is a joke but he is doing his job!!

He was going after Born Ready, Ebanks, and some others that may have been just fine, but maybe not.  There was Bud Mackey too -- not good.  I'm not saying the team has to be all saints, but it can go too far the other way.

I partially agree with you but he did recruit Bud Mackey. I think it was overblown and made to be worse than it actually was but there were some issues there.

The donors are the tricky part.  There have been a few in the past who expected access and privilege in exchange for their money.  When they felt they weren’t getting enough of that, they stopped donating.

Because he had one year and one year only where he had 2 of the top 5 players nationally.  He wanted to go for it all and needed to plug holes by whatever means available.

I've got a lot of empathy for the politics Scott has to navigate.  Ideally you would have the President, AD, and Board all collectively helping to establish a line with donors in terms of what they get in return.  This can be done with tact to keep donors on side.   I doubt that happens.

Either way we gutted the program and have cost ourselves 16 years because we don't dare hire anyone who is not an altar boy now.

I see we are playing all the hits today lol. Was it Sampson’s fault or IU’s? How does Bloomington club soccer impact Brad Stevens decision to come home? Does his wife prefer Boston to Bloomington? Next we will rehash all the ways Crean can’t beat a 2-3 zone lol. Man I wish we had a program that made this year’s team worth talking about.
