Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Before long Woodson may bring a pillow and blanket for nap time during games.

I'd love for coach Woodson to get a technical if a bad call goes against at home.  Please show some passion and show these players that you want to win and that you'll fight for them.  (Of course, it needs to be tactical and not in the closing minutes of a close game.)

Just a reminder people, this man is President of the Dennis Gates Fan Club:  (8-18) (0-13) so his credibility may be suspect.   lol

Conspiracy theory:  Quinn Buckner is secretly being funded by PUke.

There are no guarantees, my friends.

I thought I read somewhere that part of Mgbako coming to IU was the promise that Woodson would play him at the 3. Personally, I don't expect Mgbako back unless NIL is just too crazy to turn down.  I can't imagine that this year has gone as his family envisioned.

Maybe the family should stay out of it.  If they are calling him a "3" and thinking lock for the NBA, they are misguided at best.

Given all the systemic changes that need to be made, Dusty's track record in building up FAU seems worth a bonus point or two. Obviously he'd need to be empowered/given the authority to make/influence some of those changes, but he's already shown he can elevate a program that's been in a bad place for a long time.

Bring in Dusty. Keep Walsh. Let him bring one Assistant + his strength and conditioning. Bring in a former HC as the last guy (there will be no shortage of them on the market). If the HC is more energetic on the trail, which Dusty absolutely is, then we probably don't need multiple assistants whose chief role is recruiter. Fife, Yaklich, Martelli, or one of the tons of coaches that will be fired this offseason. Profit.

Maybe so... but with Woodson as the "voice of reason" it may all be for naught...

What about a blast from the past and bring Buckley to the staff as the shot doctor?

I don't think this is exactly groundbreaking "news" at this point, but Mackenzie has not been very well coached throughout his career. For the first 3 years of his HS career, he went to a small Catholic school that happens to have a pretty good basketball program. Dime a dozen coach - he got some talented players there but clearly does not teach fundamentals very effectively. Only in his senior year did he transfer to one of the NJ powerhouse programs and that coach is more of a recruiter than a developer of talent. His AAU team was, I believe, coached by DJ Wagner Sr. and it's AAU, so not a lot of teaching goes on. His size probably covered up a lot of deficiencies in his game. Not that the staff really spent much time evaluating him.............

All this to say, it's very hard to navigate the basketball landscape if you're not being brought up in the right "tree" IMO. I'm sure they were excited by the idea of playing for a former NBA coach and trusted in his ability to set Mackenzie up for success. For some reason they seem(ed?) very set on him playing as a 3. Kind of weird for a family that does not have a deep understanding of the sport. I can't imagine they feel great about how this year has gone and think the typical move in these circumstances is to transfer so it looks like your poor play was more a product of being in a dumpster fire system and not about your own ability. Maybe Woody and him have a good enough relationship that he comes back, but I doubt it. That kid needs a sophomore year...somewhere. Ideally here. But no reason to wither away in the G League by leaving college now.

I could get on board with May and Yaklich. Supposedly turned around Michigans defense. I know this is unfair to Walsh but i honestly don’t want anyone back from this staff. Woody kept Archie’s and we see how that turned out. Give me new everything.

Why not? Everyone else seems to be getting technicals.

Fair, but Walsh got McNeeley and is the lead on Mullins/Sisley. If this were next year I'd say clean house, but if they move now we could keep Walsh and maybe have a fighting chance at those prospects.

Maybe but it's their call not ours

Yes that was a promise but at this point if you're about to lose your job are you still worried about the promises you made?

I don't expect him back. Heck I don't know who I expect back at this point. I know ACC & SEC teams are trying to get Malik to go back close to home.

Malik will have offers at other schools no doubt. Woodson will have to pay him a pretty penny to keep him.

I am off today, had a yearly check up today. So what does a long time frustrated IU fan do, watch old games on YouTube. Watching the 93 sweet 16 game vs UL. Boy is the game so different and don't even look like the same game as today. So much more movement and passing and less standing and dribbling. A lot more scoring as well, right now it is IU up 35-29 with 7 minutes to go in the first half.

Woody only kept one of Archie's assistant coaches, Hunter.  Ya is new and Fife was new.  Walsh was on Archie's staff but only moved up to Assistant after Fife was let go.  Calbert, Hulls are new additions to the extended staff.  So I don't really get this idea that he kept Archie's staff.

I would be fine with Walsh, Calbert, and Jordy.  I am indifferent about the strength coach.  Walsh appears to be the main guy out recruiting and he could point to results.  He is probably one guy that could help keeps doors open for recruits in a switchover.

I don't feel Hulls is as involved in team play so no problem with keeping him.  Calbert, even in his NBA days, was seen as a bit of a mentor to younger players.  Put him with the right head guy and I think he would be good to keep around.  Everyone else?  Meh.

His defensive awareness would be below average on the 8th or 9th grade teams the middle school/HS I played at. I don’t mean to be unkind and of course plenty of players have deficiencies, develop, etc., but still being this bad in transition, switches, etc. At this point makes me worry he may never catch on.
