The last 1.5 seconds there are a couple things in hindsight from clanging last ft off rim ( have to make sure you hit rim) creating scramble for ball to double team Clark, to putting Wisne or most likely Geary in game to guard in bounds pass (jumping up and down with her long arms waving and extended.

However, disappointed in that IU Ladies allow Clark to score 30+ in both games (though first time it worked in IU’s favor)….game 2 continued to drive and score and hitting shots.  Where is a better defensive strategy….and success would be 22 to 24 points.  Maryland (@ Maryland) held Clark to 10 points.

Garzon is just sitting there jumping up and down in no mans land as Clark catches the ball. We executed very poorly on that last play. Looked like our loss at ILL when we were #1 with Zeller.

Last 1.5 just wasn’t good.  However, Iowa executed the last 1.5.  and IU Ladies did not and were executed…on.

Here are the seats Iowa gave the family members of IU players

Lots of teams are pretty bad at that. I remember the game that Jordan Love finally got to play for the Packers when Rodgers had Covid and Love's parents were in the literal last row of Arrowhead Staium.

She's completely set and doesn't have her hip out. I thought live it was an illegal until I rewound the feed. Just cannot allow yourself to be screened so easily, if you're CMM.

Maybe a 50 50 call and you may get the call in middle of game and more of chance on home court and lesser chance of getting call with 1.5 seconds last shot.

Sorry, I don't view it as 50-50 at all. The fact CMM tripped is, imo, the only reason its even being discussed. No biggie.

I don't like guarding the inbounder there, at all. Garzon needed to be better in the spot she was at... she should have recognized the play and been right there for CCs catch. She got caught ball watching. I also wouldn't have missed the last FT.

If you guard the inbounds they don't get an easy pass straight to CC. But if you're not going to guard the inbounds then you have to double CC and make someone else beat you. I love this team but the staff made a few mistakes on that possession.

I don't agree. CMM needs to just get through a simple screen/Garzon needs to do her job better.

I don't think the staff made any mistakes on the last possession. Our execution sucked, though. Only thing I would have done differently is put Berger in Garzons spot, so she could recognize the play, Yarden didn't.

I tend to agree about Garzon being involved like you say…not sure how she was coached on that…she is a freshman and has at times in low key manner kind of disappears a little from game only to make big 3 ball shots or really good plays.  Off season weight room and another year in program if she wants it should really help her.

That's one way to look at it. I guess just let the best player in the country get an easy catch and shoot and hope she misses.

But, CMM shouldn't have allowed that. So.... lol

Like it's not even a good screen by Iowa... it's a bad angle, she should have been under and through that screen easy peasy plus Garzon should have recognized what was going on... and boom, you have two girls right there when CC catches the ball. The staff cannot hold their hand through this play.

Oh ... it will help her an incredible amount.

Garzon is SOOO late helping on that play. She is recovering to her girl when the ball is in bounded... not even to CC. She played that play with blinders on, can't do that defensively.

Next year Garzon instincts on a play like that should be much improved kinda coming out of a shell and Parrish and teammates instincts should be improved in communication about those kinds of things. (coaches, Berger, Holmes, Moore-McNeil especially should have been in communication with Garzon on that play).  However, Iowa did execute the play when they were given the opportunity.

Nothing there ( illegal screen or travel) that ever gets called in that situation. Make anyone beat you but Clark on an open look. That’s rough.

It's just as simple as CMM getting through that screen. Like it wasn't said in the huddle "trip so we give her an open look". I guess I don't really understand the frustrations. Our defender, imo the best defender in the B1G... just tripped. Idk

I would have liked to force Iowa to catch the ball over the top or on the other half of the court. Catching the ball and going to your right for a right handed shooter is much easier than the opposite. I have a feeling the staff and team learned from this experience and will be better for it. All of their goals are still attainable. I hate losing and excuses but this might have made the team more hungry for the next few weeks.

FWIW -- she was on the Dan Patrick Show this morning.

She claims she was the second option -- said they were looking for something in the lane (presumably to Czinano) to go for the tie.

Also said she might us her COVID year and stay in college for two more years.
