Interesting she mentioned they made adjustments at halftime that afforded that 3rd quarter run. What are halftime adjustments?

It's where coaches look at the stats at halftime and decide to make changes to the game plan to try to slow down what the other team was doing successfully in the 1st half. Last night their freshman guard was scoring a lot of points going to her right while being guarded by Parrish. We put Chole on her and brought help from the right.

Two nights ago we noticed that Bates was scoring a lot or being fouled on straight-line drives. We also noticed that they were scoring most of their points while Race was out of the game. So we decided that JG & MR should only get one chance to fix that in the 2nd half or just go with Race the whole time.

In the women's game, it's easier to see the adjustments for the casual fan. Some staffs are much better than others at making them in the women's game. On the men's side, all coaching is so good the adjustments are so minimal it's hard for some to notice the adjustments unless you are trained to look for them. Hope this helps :-)

Yarden guarded her in the 2nd half. I was confused why they waited that long to make that adjustment, Garzon was the only one that could bother McMahon/match up with her.

You are correct I got confused. Chole was guarding Mikesell.

I'm pretty sure you are confusing concepts.  On the men's side an adjustment on offense, for example, is what occurs with less than five seconds left on the shot clock.  Say we are running a three-man weave well beyond the top of the key and it's going great with lots of energetic running, side-to-side passes and defenders who seem perfectly content to let us continue along. But suddenly one of our players realizes that the shot clock is about to expire.  Crap!  He "adjusts" by urgently turning his attention towards the basketball goal to see what if anything we can do to get a shot up in time.  Adjustment accomplished!

Was referring to OSU having just lost at home to Iowa.

Correct. OSU curtains off their top level and has a 10k max for women's basketball. IU doesn't close any part of the arena and could get to 17,222 if that many showed up.

Waiting until half time to switch Yarden to guard McMahon…that’s why they call it half time adjusting…it worked out…it didn’t give opportunity for OSU to readjust at half time…OSU had to readjust in timeout huddles after realizing what was happening to them (in 3rd quarter).

McMahon was the only one that could score, and Garzon was the only one that could limit her. McMahon is just a FR, so maybe our staff didn't quite know of her capabilities and strengths.... but it was pretty obvious we couldn't stick with who was guarding her. Either way, the staff is absolutely tremendous, but waiting until halftime to make an adjustment doesn't make a lot of sense. There wasn't going to many "readjustments" for OSU to make, regardless of when we moved Garzon onto McMahon.

"that's why they call it half time adjustments" who calls it that?

I have heard it referred to as half time adjustment/s many times.  I think Parrish started out on her.

We just weren't at an advantage by waiting

Not sure on that one.  Probably, other factors involved according to game plan.  Who knows, in first half immediate change to Yarden…has been known to commit a couple quick fouls and that would be a negative.  Halftime talk and instruction may have produced high IQ focus.

It will be interesting to see how the voters react to what we've done. No. 3 Stanford probably won't lose. No. 4 LSU is unbeaten and done for the week (after a 38-point destruction of Alabama). And No. 5 UConn is -- well, UConn. They've obviously built up a ton of cachet over the years. And we got OSU coming off a loss.

I wouldn't be surprised if we only moved up to No. 5.

First things first, though -- let's beat Rutgers on Sunday.

Definitely agree where they'll probably rank us, but we are the only team in the country with those results.

So we do or don't have halftime adjustments?

Let's call them half-time reminders with additional emphasis because you have the extra time to expand on the message.

I think we may just be having some fun with Peyton Manning's half-time adjustment myth comment from a week ago.

Ahh! It's making sense now. "Adjustments" is a code word but sometimes we haven't waited until halftime to drop our "adjustments" like Peyton and Eli were referencing.
