Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB @ Minnesota - Wednesday, 1/25/23 @ 9:00 ET on BTN

Recommended Posts

Geronimo played well for a couple of games, but he's also been absolutely lousy most of the year.  For the couple games he played well he's had just as many where he was virtually unplayable.  Thompson won't be in game shape yet, but Geronimo has shown more bad than good this year.

Race was the better defensive option against Battle. That's it. That's all that mattered in this game. Period. And he proved that, over and over again. MR was the better offensive option, Race the better defensive option, JG was not an option. Let's move on from this please.

And yet Battle scored 20 points!

I believe 5 were in the first ~90 seconds against Kopp

Yep. Kopp was solid on those possessions, Battle hit some tough ones. Basically, that's what he did all night. At least 6pts in the 2nd half were when Race wasn't even on the floor.

Agree. He hit several deep contested shots and a majority of his points were well defended, just better shot making.

His game and shot is not the prettiest, but he can fill it up. Surprised he has stayed at Minnesota, surely he would have had some suitors elsewhere if he chose to.

Oh I agree. Just watching the last two games.... if we had Hauser or Battle, we'd be on a different level, no question.

It seems like Battle was just hitting contested shots. Rarely was there an instance where he wasn't covered well, shots just went in

I will still say we didn’t play well against Minnesota, lucky to have won that game.  Also, I think When Geronimo was starting, there was more movement and less clogging the lane than Race starting and I think it affected the way Geronimo played as well as the rest of the team.  Race should not have started, period.

Also, I bet Bates and Galloway’s 3 point percentage at home is significantly higher than on the road, probably 30 points higher.  Does someone have that stat? It should be closer than what it is.

You nailed it.

Bates

Home 50.0% Road 22.7%

Galloway

Home 59.1% Road 30.0%

Pretty wild splits.  Also crazy that Trey is shooting nearly 60% at home from distance.

Thanks for that stat!  That’s crazy but I thought it was that large of a discrepancy. That’s got to improve or we will have trouble  winning our remaining games on the road.  I can 10 to 15 points but not 30.

I'd like to see a stat on movement home vs. away too.
