No. 18-ranked Indiana men's soccer (5-2-3, 1-1-2 B1G) begins the second half of its conference slate on Sunday (Oct. 9) when it visits Rutgers (5-2-4, 2-2-0 B1G) at Yurcak Field.

The match will be streamed live on the Big Ten Plus digital platform with kickoff set for noon ET.

SETTING THE SCENE
• IU sits middle of the Big Ten Conference table with four opportunities left to climb the standings.
• The Hoosiers have scored 19 goals from 11 unique goal scorers this season. Redshirt senior Ryan Wittenbrink leads the Hoosiers in goals (5) and points (13).
• Senior forward and reigning Big Ten Player of the Week Herbert Endeley has tallied six goal contributions (two goals, four assists) in Indiana's last six matches.
• A win for IU Sunday would be No. 800 in the program's illustrious history.

ABOUT THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
• Rutgers comes into the match with a 5-2-4 record and sits third in the Big Ten table with seven points (2-1-1). Its last result was a 3-2 defeat to Maryland on Tuesday.
• The Scarlet Knights are led by fourth-year head coach Jim McElderry. McElderry has compiled a 25-20-10 record at Rutgers and a 152-145-57 career record in 19 seasons as a head coach.• Rutgers boasts a high-scoring offense, recording 26 goals through 11 matches thus far. Senior MD Myers and Jackson Temple lead the team with nine and five goals, respectively. Temple also owns a team-high five assists.

SERIES HISTORY
• Indiana has won 11 of 16 matches in a series with Rutgers that goes back almost 30 years. The Hoosiers have won five of the last six matchups.
• IU and Rutgers met twice during the 2021 campaign, splitting the season series, 1-1. In September, IU fell 2-1 to the Scarlet Knights during an early season slump. Daniel Munie scored the opener, in the 22nd minute, but Rutgers countered with two goals in the second half.
• Indiana got revenge in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament, earning a 1-0 victory. Munie was again involved in the goal providing the first assist to Samuel Sarver's 27th minute goal, helped on by Herbert Endeley.

I wish more people on this board played and coached soccer like I have in past. The defense has struggled but its certainly not as simple as the Hoosier D just flat out not showing up as some of you think.

Rutgers plays a style that is much more ACC like and not Big Ten defensive like at all. They have speedy forwards who are very fast and beating IU down for shots. This way of playing has to be extremely frustrating for other Big Ten teams and is much like the Clemson match.

Goals are easy to come by. IU has more talent and speed if they can make halftime adjustments but the Scarlet Knights attack is formidable and their defense awful. Maryland had same issue with Rutgers (and Terps D is certainly as good if not better than IU's) before edging them out on talent late in last match 3-2.

About to say, sooner or later, that RU is going to collapse if we can make those HT adjustments. Seems like RU likes to play a really 1H and then it somewhat dwindles in the 2H from a few games I’ve seen
