Class of '66 Old Fart

(2024) - PG Boogie Fland to Kentucky

Recommended Posts

In a slogfest, Stepinac (11-6) beat Mount St. Michael's (3-13) 61-35.  Boogie went down with 2 min. left in the 2nd Q.  It looked like he slipped or simply lost his balance on a drive to the basket and immediately grabbed his right knee.  He was helped to the bench and never returned to the game.  He was on the bench for the second half with an ice pack on the knee.  He did spend a brief period of time walking behind the team bench.  Stepinac's next game is Friday.  While in the game, he scored 6p and had 2a.

Archbishop Stepinac (12-6) defeated Monsignor Scanlan (5-5) 58-57 in a physical game that went down to the wire.  Boogie finished with 28p; 5r; 1a; 2s; 0b; 0t.  How he got his 28p is mildly interesting.  First of all, he was a perfect 15-15 from the foul line.  In the first half he was 4-4 on 2s and 0-4 on 3s.  In the 3rd Q, he couldn't buy a bucket going 0-6 on 2s and 1-1 on 3s.  He scored 7 of his 28 in the 4th which included 5-5 FTs.

Archbishop Stepinac (14-6) defeated Mount St. Michael  Academy (3-14) 60-45 in a game that was basically an 8-10 point lead for Stepinac until very late in the 4th.  Stepinac as a team was not sharp.  Careless with the ball and committed stupid  fouls.  In the 4th instead of using the clock as much as possible, players were coming down and jacking shots 15 sec. into the 35 sec. shot clock.  Boogie just 5-15 FG for 13p; 8r; 2a; 2s; 1b; 0t.  He made his first basket and then missed his next 7 shots.  Rough night all the way around.

Stepinac lost 44-42 to Iona Prep in a game Boogie only scored 2 points and took just 7 shots.  He went to the sidelines less than 2 minutes into the game and the announcers mentioned a left foot problem.  He was out for about 2 minutes and then returned and played the remainder of the game.  He didn't have any noticeable foot problem but clearly wasn't his usual self.  He didn't attack the basket and almost all of his shots were short hitting the front of the rim.  He did get 2 reb, had 4 assts and 2 stls.

Stepinac beaten at home 74-68 by Cardinal Hayes snapping a 16-game home winning streak.  Boogie much better than last Saturday.  Announcers said he was at 70% but I have no  idea if that was from a legitimate source or a number they pulled out of their butts.  28p; 2r; 1a; 1s; 1b; 2t            8-19 FG; 3-9 on 3s; 9-11 FT.

Stepinac had no answer for UNC commit '24 Ian Jackson who finished with 35; 18 in the 3rd Q

Archbishop Stepinac defeats Cardinal Hayes 69-66 for the CHSAA AA Championship.  I've read that our interest in Boogie cooled when Woody watched him in person and he didn't have a good game.  Too bad Woody wasn't there today.  Boogie finished with 30p on 12-15 FG; 3-5 on 3s and 3-5 FT.  He scored 22 in the first half missing just 1 shot.  He scored on long 3s and sweet drives to the basket.  I've watched several of his games this year and he would not have any trouble adapting to  the physicality of B1G play.

This is pretty big news because from what I've read, Woody watched him play in a game last year that was far from one of his best and backed off aggressively recruiting him.  No idea what brought about our renewed interest but clearly we've jumped back into his recruitment with both feet.  And if after backing off to some extent and he still wants an OV  --  that's pretty damn good news.
