IU Basketball News and Notes

After last year's hardly noticeable performance, a turnaround in minutes played and the quality of those minutes could be a signficant recruiting tool for a Raleigh Burgess or Malachi Moreno as to how they might develop under Coach Woody.

I can’t think of a 6’7” wing who will primarily be a catch and shoot guy for an IU comp.

Maybe Hornsby or Kopp.

Physically there’s some Troy Williams, though the skill set is totally different.

”plus defense Hornsby/Kopp and wired to score” is eventually an all-conference player. Let’s hope.

I remember on the older boards how some posters thought Wat was too perimeter-oriented aka didnt want to work the post.

There was quite a bit of fan criticism of Watford his first couple of seasons at IU. That criticism evaporated after he hit the shot that beat number one Kentucky.

Right. He was a legend at that point. But even the rest of that season he really evolved into a complete player. We as a fanbase always seem to pick out 1 player a season on which we really unleash the vitriol. Wat shed that role, but he wasn't deserving of it in the first place. He was the best healthy player on a TERRIBLE squad.

100%. One guy over on HSN took to calling Frosh/Soph Wat "Cookies" mocking him as weak going to the rim and defending. Wat of course developed into a guy who could defend multiple positions well, finished well in the lane and of course became exceptional and one of our most memorable players from the perimeter and as a representative of IU basketball. The Wat Shot to this day after decades of IU ball and growing up in B Town remains one of my best memories of IU ball. Why some have to attack and pick on guys especially when they're still developing as Frosh-Soph players at the college level is beyond me.
