IU Baseball vs Minneosta - May 13-15, 2022

Recommended Posts

We simply cannot afford to let this weekend series go to waste.

This weekend in the Big Ten will go a long way in clarifying or distorting the Big Ten Tournament picture as all but one conference series pits a top-8 team against one looking to get into the playoff picture, including the Indiana baseball program hosting Minnesota for three games at Bart Kaufman Field.

Saturday's (May 14) game time has been shifted to 4 p.m. and will not be televised on the Big Ten Network. Prior to that contest, the program will honor its seniors as part of a pregame ceremony.

Indiana (22-26, 8-10 B1G) sits in the No. 7 spot in the standings and enters its final home series of the season winners of its last three Big Ten series: vs. Nebraska, vs. Illinois and at Michigan. The Hoosiers are being powered by a trio of freshmen, Carter Mathison, Josh Pyne and Brock Tibbitts. They are looking to etch their place in the record books as the first trio of rookies to drive in 40-plus RBIs in the same season in program history.

For Minnesota (14-31, 4-14 B1G), the Gophers enter off of just the second series win of the season and first since mid-March. UM took the final two games from Nebraska in Minneapolis last weekend and will be searching for its first true-road victory since the season opener. The Golden Gophers are not eliminated from tournament contention, either, entering the last weekend needing some wins to get close to a trip to the Big Ten Tournament.

Yeah. Unacceptable. We can't hit against a pitcher who has been terrible and Perkins getting rocked by a horrible lineup.

If Mercer can't get the team up to play against a horrible team who has not won on the road in three months we need a change. This was IU's prove it weekend in many ways and right now they are proving they crack under pressure against a terrible team.

UGH!  Perkins gives up a 3-run HR in the first inning

He gave it up in the second actually but still a longball to a .198 hitter is not OK.

This whole season seems to be one step forward two steps back and apathy has set in. For whatever reason this staff just isn't working out.

Hoosiers win today's first game 12-0.  Brehmer pitched the first 2 innings of yesterday's game before it was suspended and allowed 1 hit.  Bothwell started when the game resumed today and pitched 7 innings of no-hit baseball.  We had 11 hits, 6 of which were of the extra base variety.

Game #2 just underway; Brehmer on the mound.  Shouldn't be a problem but there is a 7:00 pm travel curfew.

IU lost 9-8 in a back and forth game. Honestly, the Hoosiers are not good enough right now to sweep the series and are in terrific position to make the Big Ten Tournament two games clear of ninth which is all you want this year. The key is next year to try to use this improved play from the beginning to be an at-large NCAA team. They have the hitting and hopefully the pitching can keep getting a little better.

In all honesty two out of three is more than a fair result given they had to pull the Friday game from nowhere and needed a huge rally to nearly steal one today.
