Dane Fife leaves IU staff

Because the reasons cited are so over the top that if they are true one has to question his hire anyway.  Think about it.  You’re hiring a guy in the new NIL environment and you’re not aware of his opinions on NIL money.  That would be hiring malpractice in my book.

NIL didn't start until 3 months after Fife's hire. I doubt many being interviewed at the time were given a deep dive into their NIL beliefs.

Yeah, no.  It was well know long before and IU seemed like it was planning to be a leader with it.  It SHOULD definitely come up during an interview.  If it didn’t, it’s a failure on the AD/HC.

My personal favorite  DD moment on radio was trashing Crean before he got fired.   Crean gets fired and it’s a total 180 and he starts defending Crean and it was the players fault.   These are the type of kids that get coaches fired.   Archie takes over with the same kids and then trashes Archie for not winning with talented enough players.   In a 3 month span the same players went from ones that get you fired to ones that are talented enough to win and no excuse for a coach to lose with those players.    It was quite impressive to listen to.

Send this to Dan, he would have ZERO defense!

That ran through my mind, along with Mike Davis regarding the failure to stay in good graces with HS coaches.

Didn’t Davis send Mike Conley the recruiting packet intended for another point guard we were recruiting. Think it talked up how much we valued that pt guard but obviously sending to another kid we were recruiting is not a good strategy

Maybe Dane overlooked some things at IU that would possibly bother him just because this was the first time IU had offered him to come back so he just wanted to coach at IU,  maybe IU overlooked some stuff that would possibly bother them about Dane because they were excited to get an experienced former player on staff.   Maybe both sides just didn’t get along and it didn’t fit like it should of and looked as good as it did on paper.  Maybe both sides just need do over

The NCAA policy is in an interim status while the NCAA works with Congress and states to come up with a national framework.

The IU Athletics Name, Image and Likeness Policy will help guide and govern the NIL opportunities for Indiana University student-athletes beginning July 1, 2021.

IU Athletics is among the first intercollegiate athletic departments to publicly announce a comprehensive NIL policy.

Players can now be contacted directly to discuss agreements. The new policy encourages athletes to work with agents to find endorsements

July 1st we introduced our policy. One of the 1st.

People weren't being interviewed about if they liked NIL.

You’re developing a new product and you don’t get a prospective coach’s thought on it.  They know it’s coming and they don’t discuss the possibilities and the effect on recruiting with a guy who’s job it is to recruit.  Come on man.  You act like they put this together in two weeks.  Just admit they screwed up the hire and move on.  No reason to trash the guy.

.....and once again, you were provided with why NIL wouldn't have been a focus in the interview.  You are the one willfully choosing not to accept answers you don't like.

If he doesn't get behind NIL, it's irrelevant because he won't be coaching anywhere.  Just admit he messed up.

Problem is it’s completely false.  IU started their NIL preparation the year prior.  Look it up.  It’s the biggest change in college sports in a decade.  So it should have been discussed.  To think otherwise is just making excuses for the administration.

Go check out the Herald Times Article dated 10/4/2020.  Dolson was all over it

So under your narrative, Fife was familiar with it at Michigan State, knew it was coming and it was a reality.  How do you think it would have fared there for him if he was tweeting that he was against it and acting basically telling recruits they were greedy and should just accept a scholarship?

NIL wasn't an issue.  It was a reality.  But it's on administration because someone refused to accept reality even AFTER they were told to knock it off?

And to others he went from an assistant coach to the second coming of Bob Knight by being fired.

Just find it pretty crappy how negative many have been towards him

Some prefer to be negative towards anyone as soon as they aren’t a part of the program, like they have a license to crap

The stories that have come out kind of make him seem like one though… They’re honestly so ridiculous sounding that they’re hard to believe, but I don’t have a reason not to believe them.

And some are negative toward everyone in the program.

I just find it strange that people want to know why he's gone and are told why, they aren't going to accept the reasons anyway.
