The converse of this, is JHS offers a lot of the same attributes.  With shooting being a question mark too.  It’s going to be hard to play X, JHS, Galloway at the same time unless 2 of the 3 become shooting threats.  Bates, when I watch him has the potential to be the multitalented scoring guard, clutch shooter type.  I love his potential.  He needs to play more.  He was forcing some things last year to try to earn more PT.

Like I said, I think Galloway's attributes are probably best as the 6th man, so if he made a leap I could see Bates grabbing a starting spot next to XJ and JHS. If Bates doesn't make a huge leap, then you have Galloway and Bates getting minutes behind XJ, JHS and Kopp (who will play less minutes whether he starts or not).

Plenty of guard/wing minutes for both Galloway and Bates.

But again, I see very few, if any, plausible scenarios where Galloway's minutes go down. Outside of shooting, he does so many other things at a high level.

Galloway has to start hitting outside shots to warrant significant playing time. He provides energy so he is an ideal bench player. But he should not be starting.

He already warrants significant playing time. He was in most of our best lineups last season.

A team that hopes to improve and compete for a conference title can't start a shooting guard who can't shoot.

So... if TG starts, we won't be improved, automatically?

With new players coming in and the likelihood that Tamar Bates plays more to his potential, some players that had significant playing time this past season will not play as much next season.  Players fall back in playing time from one year to the next. You have to like Galloway's hustle and energy. But his shooting form is awful and unless he fixes his outside shooting others who can hit those shots will be playing instead. I predict by next season's end, his playing time will not be what it was at the end of last season.

Yeah, I don't agree with much of that.. that's ok though! We will definitely see!

Like I said, I think he's the 6th man. I also don't consider him a "shooting guard", if that's even a thing anymore.

There's a lot more to the game than shooting, and Galloway does almost all of the other facets better than any wing we have.

There was a reason we were winning until he got hurt, then we won when he came back from the wrist, then went on a swoon in February when he hurt the groin, and then finally started winning again when he came back in March.

The guys wins. The guys plays good defense, is our best play maker in transition, plays with pace, and creates and finishes at the rim.

He'll keep his regular 6th man minutes and pick up some of Phinisee's minutes. I really can't see any scenario where his minutes go down.

Bates will fight Kopp for the other wing minutes with Galloway in the mix there as well, and JHS will pick up Stewart's minutes and probably some of Phinisee's as well.

Kopp may start but his minutes will greatly decrease, unless he shoots the 3 better

Agree that his minutes will decrease, how much will depend like you said on how well he shoots and also how much a guy like Bates improves.

Although, Kopp's minutes were already pretty limited for a starter. While he did average 25 a game on the season, it was probably closer to 20 when Galloway/Phin were healthy.

Also, there is a huge misconception that Kopp is a 3 point specialist. 55% of his shot attempts this year were 3s and during all his years at NW it was never above 50%. And 36% is a reasonable 3 point shooting percentage, the biggest issue with Kopp this year was that he was struggling with 2 point shots, and ended up standing around on the perimeter way too much as a result making him easier to guard

If Miller Kopp isn't almost entirely a three point specialist then we're using him wrong on offense.

He should be spotting up on the perimeter and waiting for a kick-out pass when a driver or post player draws a double.

I think its more a confidence issue. I think the staff had intended to use him for more than a 3 point specialist, but Kopp just wasn't assertive enough to take the shots the staff wanted him to take

Just my opinion, but for the team to maximize its potential, Tamar Bates needs to begin to maximize his.  He can help get us to a different level than Kopp or Galloway.  If he doesn't, we can still be good.  Just not as good as if he does.

I tend to agree though with the add that Geronimo's continuing growth / maximizing his potential is at least equally important, he's a beast. Bates has the ability to make a big time jump, and brings a much more diverse game than Kopp. I remain hopeful / optimistic on Galloway, who brings that improve-everyone-around-him game, we do tend to play better as a team and the ball moves better when he's on the floor -- but he also needs to improve his out-of-control baseline drives and his shooting.

- Also, in some ways the Galloway / Geronimo discussion reminds me of the old Sheehey / Vic discussions. Galloway has a lot (imo) of Sheehey in his game, the guy other teams don't like/don't want defending them.

Agree on Bates. It would be huge if he makes a big leap.

With that said, I also don't think Bates ascending would really impact Galloway's minutes. Lots of perimeter minutes between XJ, JHS, Bates, Galloway and Kopp.

So it appears clear Dexter Dennis is waiting on TJD to make a decision?  This whole thing is interesting.

That’s not a good exchange!  It is probably because of his  NIL potential.  I wish we would get a big that contributed at his previous school in exchange, if TJD doesn’t return

i wish the very best for TJD, but I hope that is his return to the Hoosiers
