Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB @ Syracuse - 11/30/21 @ 7:00 on ESPN2

Despite Syracuse 3-3 record, gonna be a tough one and we'll see what Woody's game plan is for attacking the Syracuse zone.

Earlier today in his zoom presser these comments from Woody:  "The zone is what it is, guys, we can't run from it. ... When I played I licked my chops when I saw zones."  He also said he'll know more on Rob's status later today but he has been practicing some.

"I go into every game with Trayce knowing he's going to get trapped. ... We design things knowing he's going to get trapped from different spots on the floor."

That quote about “licked my chops” makes me feel good about the game plan

I feel so much more confident when I listen to Woodson talk about upcoming games. Crean would give us a bunch of baseless platitudes about "building a hunger to win" or "wanting it more than them" and Miller would prattle on about needing to make plays or some other boring gibberish.

I think we will see a lot of trayce at the foul line, Stewart on the wing, Kopp on a wing, and whoever the 4th is running baseline corner to corner. Would like to see bates and leal as the fourth should get good looks in the corners

This will be IU’s freshmen from last years team first true road game.   Last year they played road games in almost empty arenas.   It will be interesting to see how they respond to playing in a big time environment

Has Syracuse been suffering attendance issues like a lot of programs have this year?

That covers only KL and Geronimo with Trey still out.

It once again highlights how incredibly advantageous it is to be rolling out grown-@$$ men on a college basketball squad.

Not sure but down attendance for them is probably still around 17,000.    Usually they average over 20,000.    Last couple years they have led college basketball in total attendance.

Feel like x is fast and strong enough to break a zone when needed, but i agree i think FT’s are going to be huge this game

It should be easy to lead in attendance when you play in a football stadium.

"Has Syracuse been suffering attendance issues like a lot of programs have this year?"

For the 3 games I watched, it wasn't even close to ½ full. There were plenty of empty seats in the first 10-15 rows, even behind the benches and media table at half-court.

But when IU comes to town, it'll probably be one of their better attended games. They may still be pissed at our NC against them.

IU will be enough to carry their fans in. Bet it’s loaded.

I’m still pissed at Tom Crean for that sweet sixteen against them so that’s fair I suppose

Woody at the presser today:

"I always looked at zones when I played; I licked my chops when I saw zones. We always felt when we played here-when we went through, teams zoned us because they couldn't play man-to-man. I don't know if that's the case, but this is Boeheim's way of coaching.

No need to wonder why the IU players always get this s**t eating grin when they're talking about life with Woody. Another example of the "f-you if you're not with us" attitude that Woody picked up from Bob Knight. Woody just does it in a much more pleasant manner than RMK.
