Class of '66 Old Fart

(2024) SF - Khani Rooths to Michigan

Stock Risers and forwards to keep an eye on.

6-8 Khani Rooths

Rooths has an intriguing skill set that continues to get better after each viewing. Blessed with long arms and a natural fluidity in his movements, Rooths uses his length to get in the passing lanes and disrupt things. The Washington (DC) Georgetown Prep forward has smooth tough with a repeatable release. He also has confidence in his handle to get to his spots off two and three dribbles. He will still need to continue adding strength and tightening his overall skill set, but the upside is obvious.

Claimed offers: Xavier, Virginia Tech, Indiana, Georgetown, Maryland, etc.

Eric Bossi on USA Basketball mini-camp

Khani Rooths, SF – Currently rated as the No. 23 player in the sophomore class, it isn’t unreasonable to think that Rooths can move up over the next couple of months. At 6-foot-8 or so, he’s got the size, length and athleticism to cause problems and his skill looks to be catching up to his physical gifts. Georgetown has been all over him, Indiana and Virginia Tech have gotten in early, and it is hard to think he won’t be a priority for the new Maryland staff. He could end up a prime ACC area target and is just scratching the surface of who he can be.

Travis Branham after last night's Adidas AAU event.

The DMV is a breeding ground every year for top talent and just one of the top tier prospects out of the pipeline in 2024 is Khani Rooths.

The 6-foot-7, 200-pound small forward out of Rockville (Md.) Georgetown Prep is a physically impressive prospect with an outstanding frame, long arms and terrific size.

He can operate both as a three and four and tonight he showed an improved handle and slashing ability playing up on the New World U17 program.

Rooths didn't display much by means of shooting the basketball but his ability to take smaller wings or slower bigs off the bounce and getting to the hole was impressive where he finished with both hands in traffic and through contact.

The four-star prospect has high upside as a defender and rebounder and as he continues to grow in each area and develop his jumper, he could become one of the top prospects in the class.

Is there a little known codicil in some recruiting handbook somewhere that stipulates that Xavier and Va Tech have to offer all the same kids?

Jamie Shaw named Rooths the Best Underclassman at the Southern Jam Fest.

Khani Rooths walks on the floor, looking the part. He continued to get more comfortable as the weekend continued, leading his New World team to the championship game. Rooths has touch that extends beyond the three-point line, and he has a good wing handle in the half-court. There is so much upside here, and he is just getting into his bag. Watch the progression over the next eight to ten months, and see where things go.

Recruitment: Indiana, Virginia Tech, Xavier, Georgetown, Maryland, etc.

Don’t love this. Really talented kid, though a little different. Pretty bad miss for Mike White.

Mike White is getting his share of talent though. Michigan is always going get talent.  They are always a sleeper, and I think this years team is much better than anticipated.
