Class of '66 Old Fart

(2023) - SG Jakai Newton to INDIANA

Recommended Posts

Tweeted earlier this evening we've extended an offer.  6'3" SG/CG who attends Newton HS in Covington, GA.  Rivals has him #90 nationally.  Quite unique that his surname is the same as the school he attends.    Plays AAU for Atlanta XPress 16U on the UAA circuit.

Saw the following after the announcement of the Newton offer and caught me by surprise with no mention of Newton's role.

Samad Hines @Samad_Hines

Newton (GA) will be a scrappy and tough group with the guys they have returning for the 2021-2022 season.  Will be one of the best in the state.  2023 guards Stephon Castle and T.J. Clark will be one of the top underrated backcourts in the country next season

Haven't seen a lot of mention of Newton but this teaser from Rabby as the remainder of the story is behind the paywall.

2023 combo guard Jakai Newton of Newton High School in Covington, Ga., has been in regular communication with Indiana, and now the 6-foot-3 prospect is aiming to see Hoosiers up close. Newton updates why he's interested in IU basketball, why he's planning to visit and updates his recruitment overall.

Watched a couple of Newton HS  fall league games and, I’m telling’ ya, that team will be 1 of the best watches in HS basketball the next couple of years. In addition to Newton, who’s a spectacular athlete and an alpha scorer, they also have Stephon Castle, a 6’5” slasher and defensive menace with a great offer list, and Qua Brown, a 6’3” CG who might be an even better athlete than Newton, though not as refined at this point, and goes to the rim with complete abandon. And they’re all ‘23’s. I doubt there’s a non-prep school anywhere with better guards.
