Class of '66 Old Fart

IU Baseball vs Illinois - 4/9 - 4/12/21 - BTN+

Recommended Posts

Brown struggling on the  mound.  In 2 innings he's walked 4 batters and thrown 2 wild pitches and he loaded the bases in the top of the 2nd but escaped with no runs scoring.

Interesting side note --  Our 4 thru 8 batters in tonight's lineup are all freshmen.

Two out magic and Hoosiers take a 4-0 lead. A walk, followed by a bad bounce off mound and through second for double and a Fugerousse's line drive single to left plates two. Than Colopy with a very high 2 run HR into bullpen.

4-0 Bottom 4.

This is probably it for Brown and you truly got the full McCade experience good and bad. No hits, 7 walks, 9 K's in five innings and will probably have to exit with 100 pitches. Halfway home 4-0.

IU has some kind of voodoo magic tonight causing their opponents to do bad plays you would not normally see. In soccer it was the NW goalie making a ridiculous error for an easy Hoosier goal. Now here in baseball the Illinois pitcher let a pitch slip on his throw and it landed halfway between him and mound for double steal.

As result IU gets an extra run on a Colopy line drive single to RF and its 6-0 after 6.

Now I am sure IU has cursed their opponents with voodoo magic. After a walk, an easy popup sac bunt is dropped by pitcher for what should of been out. It got worse from there for Illini, as instead of still getting an out at second on throw, he tosses ball into CF and it leads to another run to make it 7-0. Richardson tacks on a line drive single to left field and IU leads 8-0 after 7.

Our last little bit of voodoo magic was a no hitter:). I was well aware it was developing, but was not going to say anything as that is the ultimate jinx;).

Brown and Braydon Tucker of all people combined to throw it. Very good game from us all around and I have got nothing bad to say. Colopy was terrific and our two out hitting was top notch tonight. We had our best defensive game in a while despite wet conditions.

Not sure if we get tomorrow in or not with the weather forecast, but two important games this weekend so far to get back on track.

The control problems Brown had while on the mound makes it almost comical that he and Tucker would end up with a no-hitter.  And for those wondering, that was the first IU no-hitter since April 25, 1984 when the Hoosiers defeated Rose-Hulman 6-0.  Almost 37 years!!

Very dumb. We have a while till it really rains. Instead of delaying the start, they should move it up to noon and they can probably get a game in when it is mostly dry.

By delaying it, doubt they get a game in at all today unless Illinois can stay until the evening and they start at like 5 or 6pm.

Whoever is making these weather decisions needs to be smarter. Its a tough call today with rain all around the area, but the best chance for play is to start NOW before the worst of it later in the afternoon.

IU now shooting for a 2pm start when the rain could be worse (or better as what this rain will do is pretty unpredictable). Just start now and you will almost certainly get a game in.

Game postponed as expected with fairly heavy rain about to start rest of afternoon.

That is why they waited so long to play last night as they did. As I said, they maybe could of gotten part of a game in if they started at Noon, but it would of been close and there has been rain all over area today. Given the weather we were fairly lucky to get two games in and got back on track with two wins.

 To Northwestern next weekend.

Not sure if this will happen but Carl James pointed out one obvious option on twitter:

"Looking at the schedule there is an obvious make-up opportunity for #iubase vs Illinois. Apr 23-25 weekend Illinois is at Purdue, IU hosts Minnesota. Play a DH in each of those series on Apr 24 and reschedule the finale of this series for Sun Apr 25."

That makes a lot of sense.  Conference will never go for it

I agree.

My guess is game never gets made up, unless the half game makes a difference for IU for conference championship, in which case it will happen last week of season on random day.
