Candidate Thread: Mike Lewis

Recommended Posts

Watching UCLA tonight there is no doubt that Lewis has made a huge difference in that team. I think he was a big part of Nebraska when he was there. Cronin teams in the past if I remember right weren’t known to be great offensive teams(didn’t watch many of his games at Cincinnati)

Im all for having Lewis and Fife play horse for head coach loser being  associate head coach.

People should listen to the segment of DD’s show this week when Michael Lewis was on. He’s tired of IU being a program that isn’t making the tournament and having success.

Pretty inspiring to me ,I heard it. What this program has been missing in my opinion.

Michael Lewis is Indiana basketball.  He’s developed a very good resume having worked in several programs under successful coaches over the years. I particularly like his experience as an offensive specialist.  Recruiting has been a responsibility.  He was very tough minded as RMK’ s point guard. I really doubt that his personality has changed.  This guy is in the middle of the UCLA huddle at crunch time diagraming the play he wants them to run. He knows. I see him as an invaluable resource on any teams bench and I want to see him come home.  Frankly, the only reason why we aren’t talking about him as our next hire is because he has spent his career in the assistant roll. I would think that after UCLA finishes their season he will be offered head coaching jobs.  He would be great to have as an assistant and then advance him into the top spot should it present itself.

Yes...they should!

If you like the way Beard presents himself, you’ll probably like Mike from Jasper just as much.

He’s been a real success as an assistant at high level programs; definitely a wild card but we could do a lot worse.

Interview starts at the one hour, five minute mark:

Love his passion for the program. I really hope he is a coach for us when the season tips next year.

Anyone else remember the story of Knight kicking him off the team one time?  Knight had his locker cleaned out and everything. However, he brought his own stuff and came back to practice every day until Knight finally gave him his locker back. LOL. He also led the protest against the firing of Knight. Tough SOB, loved his play. I would love to see him back on the sidelines in one way role or another.

I like me some Michael Lewis.
I wasn’t alive for most of his playing days but that’s why I have older brothers.  Big time scorer in high school that changed the way he played at IU for RMK because that’s what we needed him to be to become all time IU assist leader before Yogi.

The kind of guy that is the ultimate competitor and the kind of guy that doesn’t back down.  He changes the culture at IU immediately.

I’m 100% John Beilein with Michael Lewis as the lead assistant until Beilein retires and then it’s Lewis.  That’s where I’m at.

I don’t see it happening though.  Not because it’s too far fetched.  Michael Lewis should probably already be a head coach somewhere and after this UCLA run probably will be so Dolson would probably have to move fast for this to happen.

Oh and I don’t care that he played at Jasper - sorry @Chris007

This has nothing to do with his qualifications (or lack thereof) to be our head coach but what always impressed me about Lewis is that he listened to Knight and gave up being a scorer to become a true PG and until Yogi came along was our all time assist leader.   Members in the Jasper area --  wasn't Lewis one of the state's leading scorers in high school?  At least that's what I recall.

I am not uncomfortable with the idea of developing our own guy.  Fife or Lewis with more money spent on assistants than you might normally have.

Yes. Exactly. Lewis has spent time in the assistant coaching network to be able to pull in talented people to assist him.  Who do you think Armaan Franklin would be more motivated to play for:  Lewis or Belien ?

To be fair I am ok with Beilein as the HC and Lewis (or Fife but don’t think he would want an assistant spot) with the hood that Lewis could take over in 5 years. Ish
