Five years ago, Beard took the job at UNLV.  Two weeks later, the job at Texas Tech (where he was very well connected) became open. He said to UNLV "Um guys, on second thought ... " 

Imagine this scenario ... 

Can you imagine had we hired Beard and the Texas job comes open (reportedly his dream job), he goes into Dolson's office and says, "Um, Scott ... "

You would hope nobody would renege on us for Texas -- but as a wise wan once said: "You never know."

We might suck next year, and probably will, but at least I am looking forward to it.  I don't see any scenario in which I would have been excited or anxious for another year of what we have seen the last 4.  Your scenario about keeping him on would have been brutal for everybody, players, coaches, fans.  The only people that would have liked it would have been the media.

I was on there for a few years. Their recruiting coverage is pretty good, they do great scouting write ups of potential targets that I really enjoyed. 

But yeah I wouldn't think they would know anything about the coaching search since nobody does other than SD.

It’s a lot easier to pay a buyout for a new coach when your previous coach got hired by someone else.

Yeah probably.  I don't buy any of the Cal talk.  UT isn't dumb enough to give him the lifetime contract that UK did and he's not walking away from that.

The Alford "haters" contingent (of which I am proudly a member) oppose him for reasons that have nothing to do with basketball. I don't care if his style is fast Oats style or slow Bennett style, I don't care if it's modern NBA style or a literal peach basket, I will never, ever in a million years accept Alford as coach of IU. 

In fact, part of the reason I experience such visceral revulsion at all the "IU Guy" talk is that I know that for a lot of the Facebook grandpa type fans, "IU Guy" is code for "Alford."

I've got plenty of friends who feel the way you do. As mentioned, I'm indifferent.

I’m starting to agree with ya Treesh. We only would’ve been stuck with Archie for one more year.  Kw, we could be stuck with Porter Moser for the next four years. I can’t do another four year bid like the last one.

Probably....but wouldn't the melt-down be delicious! Those toothless inbred hill-jacks all slobbering and furious over a coach willfully leaving Big Blew! It would be epic. A lot of those poor cousin-wives would get beatings for sure.

This is exactly how I feel. There have been literally zero good rumors coming out about our coaching search in the past week. Everything that we've heard has been depressing. Either the rumors are all fake, or we're in bad shape.

Again, I'm assuming the worst but hear me out.

This is exactly why I wanted to keep Archie for one more year. Hell, we didn't even need to keep him an entire year. We lose our first four games next season -- fire him and let Roberts take over. We let an Indiana alum coach finally and we get a full four-five months of conducting a national search while raising money, observing other coaches, etc. So what if the fans are upset another year or if we lose another year? Better than being stuck for an additional four more years with a coach who doesn't move the needle.

We'll find out eventually if we should've kept Archie a couple more games.

From what I've seen, there hasn't been any sourced information ...
