I'm good where my hopes are. Doubt I'll be disappointed unless it is someone similar to CAM.

Someone like CAM. So are you interested in Mack? I ask because he's basically Archie but maybe slightly better with a more charismatic personality.

Eric Musselman is the guy. Has experience coaching at just about every level and setting imaginable. Known for player development and knows what it takes for guys to succeed in professional basketball. Also seems to have the type of personality to build the brand back up.

Being a Magic fan from back in the Penny Hardaway days,  this would make me smile.  Have no clue what kind of coach he is.

Mr. H is a good dude and Coach. I live in Memphis. He is well respected. He’s a Blue and White striped Tiger through and through though.... Prob not leaving.

No, gosh no. I’m going to keep beating this drum, folks.

I’ll beat the opposite drum. Beilein with our current roster could win immediately. Is he the long term answer? No. But he fixes things immediately. Could even hire him and do a coach in waiting as the associate head coach. Or just have the program in a much better spot for when he retires in 6-7 years. We don’t need a coach for the next 30 years, we just tried that. We need a coach who could win now. Beilein fits that bill.

Beilein - You could win now with our current roster while getting an assistant to work beneath Beilein and take over in say 6 to 8 years health depending.  Winning gets recruits and making the tourney helps as well.  Fife could be one in the waiting perhaps?

Beard - This would be the other route I'd go other than Beilein.  Younger guy, could be that 20+ year coach.  16-17(1st year) he went 18-14 and missed the tourney, however, 17-18 went to Elite Eight, 18-19 went to the final game and last year would have made the tourney.  This year they are a 6 seed.  He's more than proven he can get to the tourney and succeed at Texas Tech(B12 is not an easy conference to play in with Texas/Baylor/Kansas/Etc).

Stevens - Pipe dream yes but never say never.  Look at Georgetown, they had a 0.5% chance to win their conference tourney this year and they did just that.  Strevens knows hoosier hospitality above most on our wish list.

My preference Stevens/Beard/Beilein in that order.

As far as recruiting and transfers go, IU needs to make a decision within a week or two for the next coach.  It will be crucial for any incoming coach to speak with the current players, next years commit(2021), the following years commit(2022) and any transfers that they may bring with them or that they may want.

I’m open to it but I’m skeptical on Beilein. I like his offensive approach but his players were so good. Unless he can flip the roster in the free transfer year...

He was pretty average in his first 4 or 5 years. It’s easy to recall the Trey Burke & Mo Wagner teams but I’m worried about being the Manny Harris teams then he retires.

And does the thugs comment in Cleveland matter to recruits? That needs to be answered

Dolson said in his press conference that he had met with the current players as well as Logan Duncomb and his dad. My wondering if Dolson does indeed have his guy lined up if he would have given the players the heads up of who it’s going to be so that they had an idea of who will be their coach. Maybe, maybe not.

My guess is he would simply tell them he has a guy, can't share it now since the guy is still coaching, maybe give them a hint so they can narrow things, possibly give them a date that he'll share, and ask them all to be patient. IMO it would be easy to do it with a college coach, but waiting on an NBA coach to finish the season would be much harder.

He may have some one lined up but he can’t tell that many ppl and expect it not to leak, especially from a group of college kids/teenagers. The candidate is more than likely still coaching and they wouldn’t want that distraction.

True I’m sure he didn’t flat out tell them who he’s getting to make sure stuff doesn’t leak.

. Matta is a little more appealing but I’m not sure he has any fire left.

I can't shake the feeling he's just looking for something to do and not genuinely interested in the rigors of coaching.  And his overall health is a concern as well.

Has an NBA coach ever left mid season to take a college job? Curious if this is a possibility.

Don't know the answer to your specific question about NBA to college, but it's not at all unusual for NBA teams to make coaching changes mid-season so there is that precedent in place.

“What’s important to us is that it’s a style of play that recruits want to play in and that recruits see that they can see themselves in, but then also is really on the cutting edge of where is basketball going, where is college basketball going, and as you can see, basketball is different than it was three years ago, four years ago, six years ago in terms of how it fits into the NBA and moving on and playing professionally. I think we have to blend all of that together to have an attractive style of play, that obviously can win consistently, but that players want to play in and see themselves in.”

This makes me think of the offensives of  three coaches:

Oates, Musselman, and Enfield - who we seem to have forgotten about.

Doesn’t seem like Oates is happening though so...

Donors didn't pony up $10 million to hire Steve Alford.

The donors have already given the money.  No way were they told who the coach is going to be.  The money was to get rid of Coach Miller not for hiring the next coach.

That being said.  I don't want Alford.  Yeah, we graduated the same year, and he is an IU legend, but I don't think he is the answer.
