Even if someone would leave the perception will be that they were pushed out to make room for Brooks.  I don't see why people worry so much about the 12th and 13th spot on the roster.  Look at the roster of our last championship team and see how many actually played any significant minutes.

Steve Alford SR G 6-2 22.0 Pts, 2.6 Reb, 3.6 Ast
Daryl Thomas SR F 6-7 15.7 Pts, 5.7 Reb, 0.8 Ast
Dean Garrett   C 6-10 11.4 Pts, 8.5 Reb, 0.6 Ast
Keith Smart   G 6-1 11.2 Pts, 2.9 Reb, 3.2 Ast
Rick Calloway   F 6-6 12.6 Pts, 4.3 Reb, 2.6 Ast
Steve Eyl JR F 6-6 3.0 Pts, 3.4 Reb, 1.2 Ast
Joe Hillman SO G 6-2 2.5 Pts, 1.2 Reb, 2.1 Ast
Magnus Pelkowski SO C 6-10 3.8 Pts, 1.9 Reb, 0.1 Ast
Kreigh Smith   G 6-7 1.5 Pts, 0.8 Reb, 0.6 Ast
Tony Freeman   G 5-7 2.2 Pts, 0.9 Reb, 2.4 Ast
Brian Sloan SO F 6-8 2.1 Pts, 1.1 Reb, 0.5 Ast
Todd Meier SR F 6-8 1.1 Pts, 1.5 Reb, 0.2 Ast
Dave Minor   F 6-6 0.8 Pts, 0.8 Reb, 0.6 Ast
Jeff Oliphant FR G 6-5 1.5 Pts, 2.0 Reb, 0.5 Ast

This picture doesn’t show how many minutes any of those guys played.

I think we’ll see a guard leave. No clue who it will be, but I have a guess.

I agree.
Don’t know who might leave but a few weeks ago, if you were an IU guard, Franklin probably told you he was leaving which meant a lot of available Durham/Franklin minutes for this upcoming season and then........here come Johnson and Bates to eat up a ton of those minutes.
It would not be a shocker if a player that sincerely stated he was looking forward to playing for Woody next season is now wondering if he will see more than 5-8 minutes a game. Don’t think the roster is set yet.

Totally agree. My wife had this happen to her after her sophomore year. The new coach said you will sit at the end of the bench and life will be terrible or you can transfer. She thought it was a bluff so she stayed. She went from the 6th man to no playing time and being told to quit the other sport she was playing her junior year. Her senior year her athletic scholarship was taken away and was no longer part of the basketball team. She paid her own way her last semester and left the state of Kentucky for good.

Coaches want their own people on staff and on the team.

This starts out rough but her leaving Ky for good actually turns it into a feel good story.

Yeah, I mean, that makes sense. On that IU team they had 7 guys play about every game and play more then 10 mpg. Baylor this year had a rotation of 8 guys playing 15+ mpg. Gonzaga had 6 guys playing 15+ mpg. We’ll probably have about 8-9 guys playing that much this upcoming year.

It's not just about guys minutes next year.  Meier was a 15 minute player his last two years.  Brian Sloan eventually became a 15 minute guy..

#1 — people that write off Galloway’s athleticism IMO are pigeon holing him.  He is a good athlete.

#2 — as a freshman and sophomore in high school — playing against much older players-/ he took a decent number of threes (near 200 I believe) and shot 37%.  The shot is fixable.

As far as #2 goes, I've wondered and asked about that but never really got an answer. In both his junior and senior seasons he injured his wrist. I wondered if that negatively affected his shot and it just hasn't been fixed yet or if he was always a bad shooter. From what you said, it sounds like the former instead of the latter. In that case, I really want him to stay. Even more than I already did. He has a really good motor, has great hustle and does a lot of small things that don't show up in the stat sheet, can drive and get to the rim, and has a great understanding of the game. If his shot can be fixed and his defense improved, he could be a very good player for IU.

Sometimes you have see it with your own eyes or just waiting for the semester to end. I'm guessing after some open gyms when everyone is here in June you will see something

June is too late for them to receive the waiver for immediate eligibility so I doubt we'll see any transfers then. The deadline this year is June 1 and going forward will be May 1.

I definitely see it as likely, but what would really bite is if they "make room" for Brooks with one of the fringe players and then someone bolts because of reduced PT. Just my own thoughts but RP, JH, JG seem like the guys that may get slapped in the face with the reality of PT loss and/or currently unrecognized need for a big increase in intensity and focus.

I thought it was July 1st this year

Hmm, maybe I got the wrong "J" month in my head. I thought it was June but I could be wrong.

Edit: You're correct. July 1 it is. That seems like an awfully long time after the finish of the season and the passing of this rule. June 1 would've made more sense but the NCAA will be the NCAA.

I'm having a hard time thinking we will "make room" for K Brooks. The kid was a reserve last year on a less than marginal KY squad. He only shoots 21% from 3. I think Galloway shot better than that, or at least close to it. And I'd much rather have Galloway's hustle, BBall IQ, and passion for IU than Brooks. (which if I remember correctly was 0 when he chose KY)

I just don't see it. My 2¢.

So is May 1st correct moving forward?

I've been on the Brooks train the last few days, but you could very well be right about that.
