So there is mutual interest between IU & Miller Kopp. I would take him for a stretch 4 right now.

Isn't he only 6'6"? Not what I think of as a 4.

Apparently he is a locker room leader. He can shoot it.

Maybe a little like an identical player to Jerome?

From watching Kopp a few times the big difference to me is he stays under control. Jerome can make a big shot for you and get hot, as can Kopp.

Kopp however isn’t going to chuck a bad shot just because

I think you lose a lot of rebounding if you play him at a 4.  On their 9 man rotation, he was 8th in rebound rate ahead of only Boo Buie.  I would hope he's nothing more than a spot player if he were to come.   We do need shooting and he's an okay shooter who does hit his free throws, but if he's outplaying Hunter and Thompson then I think those two haven't improved.

IMO, it's a little worrisome that if that is true, Kopp taking good shots still shot a lower percentage than Hunter.  If Hunter starts taking better shots, his ceiling is much higher.

Not saying I wouldn't want Kopp, but I would hope it wouldn't be for anything more than some shooting off the bench when he spells someone.

Why will they be good next year?  Other than they have Smith coming in.

I said should. I'm not a psychic; I don't know definitively if they will be good. Got some talent on the team with Kessler, Flanagan, Thor, Smith. Another top 100 guard in 2021 class too. Pearl is a good coach, I'd be surprised by two subpar seasons in a row.

Kopp did shoot 39% from three a couple years ago on over 5 attempts per game. Last year was a bit of a down year for him but he can stroke it.

Thinks Smith will get reconsider with Kessler at Auburn now.

i still think Smith will stay at Auburn

Except Smith isn’t a 5 and Kessler is. So I don’t see an impact at all.

Smith is #5 overall in 2021 class on 247

I can see your argument, for sure.

I’m thinking Kopps percentages dipped from trying to have to be one of the two main scorers. If he comes to IU I could see his going way up because he will get more open shots when defenses dive in on TJD or help on X driving.

min some ways I know this contradicts my first argument about Kopp being ore in control, but I don’t think he got the open looks because of a lack of options at Northwestern. I think if he comes to IU he’s a 4-6 shot a night guy whose going to avg 8-10 on high percentages

This sets up perfectly for CMW. Our young talent from last year is a year older and will undoubtedly benefit from a change in philosophy and staff. Get a couple of pieces from the portal to fill the holes and we are automatically better than last year. It may take a bit to get off the ground, but this team should get better and better as the year goes on.
