I have to say I love all of this only 2 games into the season. Outside of the benches clearing b/c that always seems like fake tough guy stuff no matter who the teams are. But the bat flip by Castellanos in game one, the flex after he scored, the chirping back and forth after the flex, all that stuff. I hope there are more bat flips and lots of chirping today. I can do without the unwritten rules of plunking a guy though. Get back in another way. Hit your own home run and flip your bat even higher. Baseball needs it.

I’m all for an off speed pitch catching a batter in the thigh. Meh, whatever. I’m not really for throwing at players heads. The tough guy stuff is exactly right. “Hold me back bro!!”

I guess as a lifelong Reds fan, first game seen was at Crosley Field, 2024 still looks promising even with Marte out for 80 games, McLain on the 60-day IL and Friedl out. I think the starting pitching staff is stronger than 2023 and can withstand some injuries or poor performance with depth to fill in. The roster looks better than 2023 yet how many of the rookies will have good sophomore years? My only wish and it will never happen with David Bell and Analytics .... quit burning up your bullpen by seasons end by pulling starters that are pitching well in a game, just because they have hit 5 complete innings or a 100 pitches.

It's not just Bell though. Everyone does this. Friedl and McLain being out hurts, but that's why it's smart not to trade away depth until you really understand who's going to be reliable and consistent. Seems like the Reds always have at least one projected starter hurt to start the year.

You have to wonder what the off season program is for pitchers for so many getting injured. I have always said in any sport it is not good on the body to work out 365 days per year, even if programmed to peak at certain times. Where were all these injuries back in the 60s and 70s when players drank beer, played golf or worked at a bank in the off season and din't know what a weight or exercise was? Yep, all of baseball does that and it drives me insane.
