Live Stats

SETTING THE SCENE
• Indiana enters the match having defeated Wisconsin (0-1-0) by a tally of 3-0 in a season-opening rout. The three-goal victory marked the largest season-opening result for the Hoosiers since beating Cal 3-0 to begin the 2003 season. IU went on to claim the program's sixth star at the end of the '03 campaign.
• The Hoosier offense has scored three-plus goals in four of the last five regular season matchups against Big Ten Conference opponents dating back to the end of the 2019 season.  In total, IU has scored at least three goals in nine contests since the start of the '19 campaign.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Roman Celentano has started 15 matches for the Hoosiers in his career. He has allowed one goal or less in 14-of-15 starts and has held a clean sheet on nine occasions.

NEWS AND NOTES
• Redshirt senior defender Spencer Glass, sophomore forward Victor Bezerra, and redshirt sophomore defender Daniel Munie were named Big Ten Players to Watch prior to the beginning of the '20-21 season.
• Indiana was unanimously selected as the preseason favorites to win the B1G in a poll from the league's head coaches.

LAST TIME OUT
• IUMS took down the Wisconsin Badgers, 3-0, in the season opener played at Grand Park in Westfield. The Hoosiers saw goals scored by Bezerra (2) and senior forward Thomas Warr, while sophomore keeper Roman Celentano kept a clean sheet with three saves.
• The brace scored by Bezerra marked his third career multi-goal match. He tallied two goals against Ohio State on Oct. 29, 2019 before netting a hat trick against Kentucky in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament later that season.
• The match marked the first official competition for the Indiana men's soccer program in nearly 450 days due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES
• The Ohio State Buckeyes will be making their 2020-21 season debut after finishing off a 7-11-1 (1-6-1 B1G) record in 2019.
• Buckeye head coach Brian Maisonneuve spent eight seasons on the Hoosier sideline. In his time, Indiana earned eight trips to the NCAA Tournament, including the 2012 College Cup Championship. A two-time Big Ten Player of the Year at Indiana, Maisonneuve finished his career with 44 goals and 22 assists.
• Redshirt junior forward Devyn Etling finished second on the Buckeyes in points with 13 (six goals, one assist). The striker has started 29-of-31 career matches.
• Senior Matteo Bennati has scored 13 goals in his three collegiate seasons. He tallied 10 goals and four assists in his two seasons with Belmont before transferring to OSU for his final two years of eligibility.

SERIES HISTORY

• Indiana has a clean 1-0 record against the B1G this season.
• In 2018, the team posted a perfect 8-0 record. The eight wins in conference play marked the most ever by a Big Ten program. The season marked the first undefeated, untied season by a B1G since Penn State achieved a 6-0 record in 2005. IU accomplished the same feat (6-0) in 2002.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
• Consistent with IU Athletics' ongoing efforts to protect the health and safety of students, coaches, staff, spectators and the local community, men's soccer matches will be played without fans indefinitely. IU Athletics' decision is in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and is consistent with what has transpired on all Big Ten campuses.

This is the last post I can make while the game is in progress.

Halftime and still no score by either team.

IU with 4 shots; 2 on goal.  OSU with 3 shots; 2 on goal.

OSU has 1 corner.

Must be a pretty physical match.  IU with 7 fouls.  OSU with 8 -- 2 each on Bennati and Wooton.  There were 3 fouls called in the span of a minute and a half.  Then another 2 called in 45 sec. of play.

Obviously a strong second half from our Hoosiers.

Daniel Munie got us on the board at 47:51 with an assist from Spencer Glass.  At 61:03, Victor  Bezerra scored his 3rd goal of the season on a penalty kick.  And Bezerra with another goal at 82:26 with an assist from Joe Schmidt.  Bezerrra's off to a great start with 4 goals in 2 games and Roman Celantano with back-to-back shutouts on goal.

We finished with 9 shots; 7 on goal.  OSU with 6 total; 3 on goal.  Both teams with 4 corners.  IU with 15 fouls; OSU with 13.

On Saturday, we travel to Northwestern for a noon match with the Wildcats.
