I know our numbers haven't really shown it, but doesn't it seem like over the course of the year, our offensive flow has been much, much better than last year? Obviously our offense has many shortcomings, but it seems like our movement is way more solid this year.

I think so too- IU gets some decent shots. Getting them to fall has been the issue.

One thing that struck me last night was during Archie’s after game conference where he addresses the “softness” tag on the team. He said it comes from the inability to get lose balls and win the 50-50 situations.
He wasn’t calling the team soft but acknowledged that it might be where it comes from and that it definitely needs to be improved. I agreed with that since several of those opportunities were lost against Minny last night. Ou-worked and out-hustled in several situations

I would agree most definitely. But last night seemed there were some new wrinkles. In particular the few times in the second half we got those curls off the baseline screen and then the pocket pass to Jerome or Thompson running the baseline seemed new, and as someone said were very reminiscent  of Troy Williams. Making shots and some spotty defense from Minnesota plays a part in that, but last night was just more "fun". We've gotten open looks all year, to your point, it just shows there's a coherent plan on offense when you can see past all the bricks we typically lay out there. Challenge with this team, as has been the case all season, will be stringing this type of performance the next time out and beyond. Just my $0.02.

Al curling off a screen to the lane was very reminiscent of the motion offense when Calbert was scoring or assisting on that play 30 times a game.  That wasn't the first time we've run it in the Archie era; however, it was more effective because Minny had to defend out to the 3 point line last night.  Some of those sets were absolutely beautiful and we probably could have had another handful of points off that action.

It didn't look like how Troy Williams scored a lot though.  His was mainly off dribble penetration or a weakside dive when someone was posted on the other block.

Regardless, it made for some beautiful basketball and hopefully can be carried forward in the remaining games.

I will say I thought I had a pretty solid porn collection.  Reb showed us what we were missing.  I am sure the mods have a thread buried somewhere with probably about 10k nudes from that one man.  We would come back the next day and Dude would have a hundred new nudes on the mod board or a massive PM thread.  It was truly impressive.  He loved his Asian women and long night discussions with Olivia.
Shoukd have seen my mortar Platoon's Library. The Grunts were always coming by and checking them out. Lok

Overall, I was pleased withe play. TOs and giving up too many offensive rebounds are the 2 issues I didn't like.

If these guys could play like that every game, I wouldn't be so down on the season. Until they get playing well consistently, my confidence will stay low.

Prove me wrong Hoosiers.

Our percentage from 3 isn’t the problem. It’s the volume. We’re #4 in the conference in 3 point percentage, but we’re dead last in attempts. Likewise, we’re 307th in the country on attempts. When we shoot them they might go in, but we shoot them less often than almost any other team in the country.

Franklin back, Hunter back, Stewart arriving, Leal and Lander likely getting more minutes next year.  Hopefully Phin shoots with confidence.  We have the look next year of having the most shooters we’ve had in a while.

Right. Even last night when guys were on fire, we only took 12 3s. Durham and Franklin should be at 5-6 3s per game. Hunter should be probably be around 4. Franklin and Hunter are a little more willing to pull the trigger when it's somewhat contested, but it seems like Durham, Phin, and Leal only want to put it up if it's wide open.

We do, but we’re also 4th in the nation in free throws taken and even with our crummy percentage made, we are tenth in free throws made.

The question is how much we want the trade off to be.  Offensively, Pom has at 41 this year.  Under Archie, we have went 92-82-65-41.....so factually, even though we view it as ugly and outdated, it’s getting more efficient.

Another reason why Archie will be here next year!

Archie will be here next year because he has a huge buyout and the pandemic has cost IU a lot of money. That's all that it boils down to.

I don't really watch non-IU college teams, but if we're the 41st best offense... Yikes. It is not pretty to watch.

It’s also entirely possible that Archie will be here next year because his team goes above 500 in the toughest conference by far in America.

Slightly above .500 and a middle-of-the pack finish shouldn't be what keeps a coach around at Indiana University. That should be a down year, not something for Archie to hang his hat on.

I generally agree that it’s not something he should hang his hat on. The question was “why might he be back next year?“

I'm not a critic of CAM but he does need to relax his hold on outside shooting. That we're at the bottom of 3-point attempts isn't on the players it's CAM's resistance to the three-point game. I'm encouraged by Hunter's gradual emergence this season (and especially how he handled the discipline), he is a strong outside shooter whose D has lagged but is gradually improving along with his confidence. We don't have an elite outside shooter, but we definitely have shooters, and with Stewart coming in and Leal's frosh to soph jump do think we'll be an improved shooting team next season -- just want to see CAM loosen up the offense to allow better spreading of the floor.

I'd honestly argue the opposite. It's his fourth season and instead of competing for the top of the conference, we're the middle of the pack and fighting for a tournament birth. Recruiting has slowed down quite a bit. The only way I'd agree with you is if TJD comes back next year. .500 and 8th in the conference with a junior TJD coming back would be a reason for him to be back next year. Archie could reasonably argue to his bosses that next year will be an improvement. But if TJD doesn't return and we don't find a frontcourt replacement,  I don't think any IU fan could realistically expect next season to go better than this one.
