General Coach Candidate News

Isn’t it probably more feasible that IU waits until April 2022 before firing Miller to pay the 50% buyout?

That being said, why would a coach like Stevens ever leave the NBA for a program that hasn’t won a championship in almost 35 years? Hell, they’ve only won 3 conference Championships in the last 20. A coach in a reasonably comfortable situation at a power 5 school would have to be crazy to come to IU. There is NO patience amongst the fan base or local media, despite being mediocre for most of the last few decades, and there is unbelievable pressure to win immediately. Pretty tough gig.. A guy like Dennis Gates or Dane Fife might be the best we can hope for.

Don’t fall for the “need to win immediately” story. It is the furthest thing from truth otherwise we would have had this discussion in year 1.

What’s your definition of “win immediately”. It’s year 4 and we are in 10th place, have not had better than a .500 conference record and this, the 4th year, is his worst conference record yet (albeit.....the BT is brutal this year). We have the same, same, same issues we had 4 years ago and rather than the fan base having “NO patience”, as you wrote, I think there has been a fair amount of patience considering the lack of progress,

My guess from what I heard was that his agent has made it known to IU he would listen to what we have to say.

Does the Ville still have possible NCAA sanctions hanging over their head (as if that means much these days :( ). If so, maybe that is why he would be open to taking off. OtherwiseI agree with other posters that it might be his agents way of getting more money from the Ville.

Yes, he knows what basketball means in Indiana.

I gotta say, this thread is a little slower than I anticipated it would be tonight. Like others have said, I’m excited for a coaching search, anxious and don’t honestly have much faith that they’ll get the new hire right, and just ready for a new era. That being said, still pretty depressed we even got to this point. I think I really like Archie the person and his background. Wish it had worked out, for so many reasons.

Apathy, plus lack of faith in the administration in next hiring doesn’t even make a potential coaching search as fun as it should be.

Enfield? Lol. Fife? Lol. No one is going to waste their time daydreaming of these scenarios.

Only a few hires out there that peak my enthusiasm.

Keeping Archie as some have suggested is a death nail, it can’t happen either.

At one point we thought Indiana would ‘open the checkbook’ and hire a winner. I think that thought is less likely this time around.

I bet you with how bad this hire has turned out and with the pandemic and the buyout their wishing they had opened their checkbook up last time

Maybe we would have had Billy Donovan? Lol. Semi-serious.

Hard for me to get ‘pumped up’ for any “realistic option”.

But a move to almost anyone gives me more hope than I have in Archie. So there’s that.

Agreed. And I don’t know as much about this as some who can comment, but if Mcrobbie really is part of the problem, isn’t it a little obnoxious that we have to go through this again, at the very end of his presidency?

If I’m being honest, I didn’t even know who Enfield was before his name was mentioned in here earlier. Maybe there’s something I’m missing with him, but I looked up his resume and was thoroughly unimpressed. I know the job isn’t the most attractive thing in college basketball right now, but surely we can do better ...

In his 4th year without a tourney appearance or even a winning conference record.  Some "lack of patience" or whatever other nonsense isn't the problem; do that at puke and you wouldn't get to 4 years.

If we want to get back we have to start having and holding expectations, we have to expect to win and not consider making a 68 team field some sort of accomplishment.

He’s a shooting specialist. Haven’t you been asking for him for years?
