Everything is relevant.

Chris and others said that from the vantage point when they said it.

Two lethargic losses later? That matters.

Two more in the coming week? That will matter for sure.

Exactly — to be clear, circumstances have changed.

I’ve been vocal that it’s time to move on but (as Stuhoo said elsewhere), making the tournament and winning a game or two would’ve made that look foolish this year. Dolson should’ve been praying for Arch to make the tourney for the obvious reasons but ALSO because it makes it obvious what to do: ride with him one more year unless a miracle happens this offseason, like Stevens and the Celts parting ways.

Finishing poorly takes the cover away: it’s basically unanimous the program is DOA under Archie, even to the most ardent supporters.

In sum: assuming IU misses the dance, I think you’ve gotta move on now rather than later.

I would like to think that losing out and finishing below 500 overall, and way below 500 in the Big Ten would make the decision for Dolson fairly easy and obvious also.

I think the harder part may be discovering who the people are that are truly available as replacements--it may be a real wakeup call

Baylor harder place to win than Indiana?!

I quit reading there.

I mean isn’t it. When has Baylor ever had success before Drew. Maybe I’m naive but I still think this is a top 15 job at least in the sport and definitely has advantages over Baylor.

Baylor had a top 5 team a few years ago and I was down in Waco for business so we bought tickets. It was an ESPN game against another top 10-15 Team so you would expect the house to be rocking.

Just before tip I noticed a lot of people still had coats on in their seats and seemed as if they were leaving soon. Then the announcer said something like Ok Bear fans move on down.  And everyone above us moved down to fill the lower 3rd of the arena (it was empty above that). This was clearly something they do often as they fans were waiting to move on down.

I have advocated for him for weeks. He would be one of the first calls I make if Brad, Billy, Bennett say no. I would call him before Matta and Beilein and the up and comers like Oats.

He would be a solid triple with the potential to be a home run. He has had some recruiting issues as someone posts as soon as I mention him but those violations were few and not been a pattern of behavior.

After building Baylor up he started recruiting the 5 stat kid. Had some success but found that model hard to repeat and adapted to a more Villanova/UNC approach.

Waco is about 2 hours from Dallas and beyond the ice cream place and 2 BBQ places is pretty easy to find better.

Personally, the Beavers' Tinkle doesn't excite me, although I've heard of people into it.

Why didn't his parents name him Richard?  Just go all in FFS.

Assuming the season ends as most of us think it will, no NCAA Tourney, 2 more regular season L's, most likely a win and then done in Big10 Tourney, I think the risk to Dolson NOT making a change now is the team comes out next year and has a season like the first four under Miller. I'm fortunate enough to be friends with a few guys whose Fathers have their name on a few Buildings down at IU.  The reason I say this and it was reiterated to me today that money isn't an issue, 10 Million doesn't make or break anything down at IU with Athletics.  Is it a lot of money, yes, is it happening at a bad time because of revenues being off due to COVID, absolutely.  The amount we are talking is an investment into the foundation of Indiana Athletics.  IU Basketball is a big catalyst for a lot of donation support the University recives and I bet that foundation is already cracking.  Delaying a move only to have to sit through another crappy season with Basketball and using Archie's contract as a reason I think will put Dolson in some pretty intense crosshairs.  Dolson has inherited a hot seat and he certainly has a "legacy" type decision he needs to make.  Time will tell and I fall in the camp of how can you not make a change?

wonder what their student section is nicknamed, if anything---"the Tinklers"?  "Tinkle town"? "the Rest Room"?

I would certainly entertain the thought of Scott Drew.

I’ve brought his name up recently.  I think he is semi-realistic.  Who knows.

Indiana needs to pay enough to get the coach they want.   Indiana isn’t going to draw a coach by itself.  Why coach at Indiana when you can get similar pay for less pressure?  We need to pay like the elites if we can hire an elite.

Archie is paid $3.2 million a year. Should we have paid him $4 or $5 million a year? IU should look among the best coaches in college basketball. If they can convince one of them then to come to IU, then pay them whatever it takes. But if all IU is just going to do is hire another Archie Miller--a young guy at a midlevel college looking to move up--why pay that person $3 million?

Yeah I could absolutely get behind this. The recruiting issues have been minor. The Hanner/Jurkin thing was in poor taste but doesn’t seem to be a pattern. He’s hopefully learned.

Baylor has dudes but he’s done great with transfers who aren’t necessarily headline guys. That bodes well for him as a talent evaluator.

They’re good on both sides of the ball. He’s adapted over time. I would not worry about postseason success in hiring: the trick is getting there with a good seed regularly. If you do that, you’ll have some years where you underperform but also some years where you hit it big.

Going off that, Drew makes 2.7 million this year. If we offer say 5.5 million that’d be tough to turn down. He’d be on par with Bill Self and Mick Cronin then in terms of salary. If we’re committed to winning I feel like he’s one of the more realistic options.

I don’t know who the right candidate is other than the obvious Brad Stevens.

Their is one candidate that I believe can absolutely turn this around pretty quickly.  It’s John Beilein.  Problem is obviously his shelf life.  He would almost have to have a wing man to come with him until he retires and have no idea who that would be.  But wouldn’t someone fairly young be interested in that?  What’s AJ Guyton doing these days?

I get all that.

Look, he’s won at a weaker conference where they really don’t care about basketball in the south. He has Indiana ties, I get it. But I can’t get over this one thing... well two things actually...

HE WANTED TO DEPORT HANNER. Scott was our assistant AD at the time, you don’t think he remembers that?

Also, I’ve learned from the many years of March Madness to NEVER have Baylor go far in the dance. They are on the list, a short list. A list of great regular season teams but will screw your bracket each year.

I think Drew has found something these last two years. He’s always been a good offensive coach as evidenced by their efficiency ratings. The thing that was holding them back was their defense.

Before last year they played zone and man evenly split 50/50 for the most part. However last year he implemented a man to man defense similar to the one that Texas Tech used in their title run which they run almost exclusively now and they’ve been a top 10 defensive efficiency team the last two years to go along with their elite offense.

You need to be top 20 in both to win a title the last twenty years and he’s shown that he can coach a team with that. I like that he was able to adjust last offseason. I know one of my biggest issues with Archie is how stubborn he is with his “system”. I want a coach that can see a deficiency and change what he’s doing and I think that Drew has shown that and why I’m so high on him.
