IUWBB vs Wisconsin - 1/10/21 @ 4:00 on BTN+

Recommended Posts

IU (6-3) (4-1) hosting Wisconsin (3-5) (0-5) in what should be a great opportunity for our bench players to get some good minutes.  Interesting to see how Cardaño-Hillary bounces back from a very poor shooting night against Penn State.  Word from last Thursday is that Penn would have an MRI on the 11th so her availability for future games is unknown.

ABOUT THE BADGERS
Wisconsin is still searching for its first Big Ten win coming in to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Sunday. Sophomore forward Sydney Hillard leads the way with 19.0 points per game while senior guard Imani Lewis adds 12.6 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game. The Badgers are averaging 71.5 points per game and shooting 43.7 percent from the floor.

NOTES

Junior guard Grace Berger became the first player in NCAA Division I women's basketball this season to record two triple-doubles after her impressive performance against Penn State where she had 15 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. Berger has the only two triple-doubles in IU women's basketball history, with her other coming in the season opener against Eastern Kentucky.

Indiana did an impressive job of limiting its turnovers against Penn State as it combined for a new program-low two turnovers on Thursday night. It tied a Big Ten record set back in 1996 for fewest turnovers in a game and the fewest on record dating back to available records in 2008-09. As a team, IU ranks second in the nation in turnovers per game (10.2).

Sophomore forward Mackenzie Holmes set a new season-high 27 points in the win over the Lady Lions and leads the Hoosiers with 17.7 points per game. Senior guard Ali Patberg is also coming off her most impressive performance of the season where she scored 24 points on 10-for-13 shooting.

The Hoosiers are looking to win their sixth-straight game in the series with Wisconsin after taking last year's meeting at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in a 76-75 overtime win.

UP NEXT
Indiana travels to in-state rival Purdue on Thursday night. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network.

Cardaño-Hillary wearing a face mask to protect her eye injured in the Maryland game again starts in place of the injured Jaelynn Penn.  On the pre-game radio show Coach Moren simply commented that Penn has an appointment with her doctor tomorrow and would be in street clothes today.

End of 1 and Hoosiers lead 15-12.

Patberg and Holmes each with 5 points.  Holmes 4 reb.  We're controlling the boards with a 13-8 advantage.,.

Sluggish start for both teams with Hoosiers 5-18 FG and Wisconsin 4-11.  Hoosiers just 5-10 on FT.

Lots of play stoppage and referee huddles.

Gulbe and Cardaño-Hillary both picked up 2 fouls in the quarter.

Hoosiers win 74-59.  Much like the Penn State game, it was the tale of 2 halves with the first half less than memorable and the second half a much better performance and they move to 5-1 in the B1G.

Points:  Patberg 21; Holmes 14; Berger 12

Reb:  Holmes 9; Berger 5                                                                    Assists:  Berger 6; Patberg 5

Ali with an outstanding shooting night getting her 21 points on 7-15 FG; 5-7 on 3s and 2-4 FT.  She also had 3 reb and 5 assists.  After a quiet first half, Grace Berger finished with 12 pts; 5 reb; 6 assts.

Team:  45% FG     52% on 3s (9-17)     58% FT

Women travel to PUke for a 4:00 Thursday game and the following Monday host Rutgers assuming Rutgers gets its virus issues under control. It was scheduled to play PUke this past Thursday and had to  postpone that game.
