Class of '66 Old Fart

(2023) - G Dravyn "Dra" Gibbs-Lawhorn

Recommended Posts

Per his AAU team, Gibbs-Lawhorn has received an official offer from IU representing Archie's first offer to a '23.   Attends McCutcheon HS in Lafayette (Rob Phinisee's school).  As a '23, there's not a lot of info out there and he's referred to as both a PG and a SG depending upon what you read.

Worth a read.

It had been 10 months. That’s what the doctor said. Based on the size of the break, the injury most likely had been around for a while. For the last 10 months, there’s a good chance that Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn played on a fractured right foot.

That means the 21 points per game Gibbs-Lawhorn averaged last season as a freshman at McCutcheon High School was on a broken foot. That means the 31 points he dropped in a game with Indiana Elite this summer was on a broken foot.

Out for the entire '20-'21 season.

Lafayette Journal & Courier -

Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn had a broken foot he hoped would heal in time for high school basketball season.

That wasn't the case.  The McCutcheon sophomore will miss the 2020-21 season after surgery.  Gibbs-Lawhorn had surgery Sept. 29 and will miss four-to-six months, his father Ben Gibbs said.

The 6-foot guard currently has offers from Purdue and Indiana.

Gibbs-Lawhorn is a four-star recruit listed as the No. 9 player nationally by recruiting website 247 Sports.  He was featured in a Gatorade commercial in March that was scheduled to run through the NCAA basketball tournaments.

Gibbs-Lawhorn made an instant impact one year ago as a freshman, averaging 21 points, 3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 46.3 percent from 3 and 48.5 percent overall. He scored 30 or more points three times, including a high of 35 in a sectional loss to Marion.

Well, if he follows the Jalen Washington path to upward mobility he should be a top 5 kid by this time next year.
