Record 121 Hoosiers Earn Spring/At Large Academic All-Big Ten Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – 121 IU students who participate in intercollegiate athletics across 10 sports earned Spring/At Large Academic All-Big Ten recognition, the Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday.

"To have a record 121 students earn Academic All-Big Ten honors this spring is a tremendous achievement by our students," said IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass. "That record is even more remarkable when considering all our students had to overcome during the spring semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I congratulate our honorees along with their families and our support staffs for this accomplishment."

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be enrolled full-time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

The conference office also awards Academic All-Big Ten distinction in the spring seasons and will present the Distinguished Scholar Award at the end of the academic year.

Big Ten Faculty Representatives established the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program. Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must be a recipient of Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full-time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding any summer grades. The Academic All-Big Ten threshold is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for a student's academic career.
