OPENING TIP
Indiana University begins its 120th  season of competition in men's basketball on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. IU and Western Illinois will meet for the fourth time ever and first time since 2006.   The game is being streamed live on BTN Plus.  The game is scheduled to re-air at 9 a.m., November 7 on BTN.  IU is coming off an 84-54 win in an exhibition game against Gannon on October 29.

THE COACHES
Indiana Coach Archie Miller begins his third season of guiding the Cream and Crimson.  Last year, the Hoosiers finished 19-16 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NIT. He is 174-94 in eight years as a head coach, which includes six years at the University of Dayton.  His Flyer teams made NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his last four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2014.   He is 35-31 at IU.   Richmond, Ind. native Billy Wright is in his sixth year of leading the Leathernecks.  He was an assistant coach at Ben Davis and an assistant and head coach at Pike High School in Indianapolis before becoming an assistant at WIU and Ball State later in his career.

NEWS & NOTES
Indiana is 98-21 all-time in season openers and has won 20 of its last 21 opening night games.  Indianapolis natives Kobe Webster (Park Tudor) and Anthony Jones (Speedway) are members of the Western Illinois squad. 

PRESEASON LOOK BACK
In the second half of two exhibition games, IU's defense held Marquette and Gannon to 37.5% shooting from the floor (18/48) and 24.1% (7/29) from long distance.  Junior Justin Smith led the Hoosiers in scoring during the preseason, averaging 13.5 points, including 18 against Gannon.  Freshman Armaan Franklin averaged 13 points, including a team-best 14 against Marquette.  He also averaged 5.0 boards and led the team with 7 assists and 4 steals.  Freshman Trayce Jackson-Davis averaged 11.5 points and 5.0 boards and led the team with 4 blocked shots.  Junior Al Durham had 11 points against Marquette and Redshirt junior Joey Brunk averaged 8.5 points and a team-best 6.0 rebounds in the preseason.
