Radio

• Wednesday will be the fourth ever meeting between IU and Kent State, as the two squads last met on March 6, 2010, a 3-0 victory for the Hoosiers.

• Indiana leads the all-time series between the two schools, 3-0.

• Indiana Head Coach Jeff Mercer is in his first season with the Hoosiers and his 10th overall year in coaching collegiately. He has posted an 92-56 career record after leading Wright State to winning seasons in each of his two years with the Raiders, including a 2018 Horizon League title and NCAA Regional appearance.

• Kent State head coach Jeff Duncan is in his sixth season at the helm of the Golden Flashes baseball program. He has guided KSU to two MAC Tournament titles (2014, 2018) and back-to-back-to-back regular season conference crowns in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

• Indiana is coming off a series sweep over the Iowa Hawkeyes this past weekend. Head coach Jeff Mercer became the first head coach in program history to earn a sweep in his Big Ten opening series (three game series minimum).

• The Hoosiers, who outscored the Hawkeyes 23-4 on the weekend, have won eight games in a row dating back to March 23. The eight-game winning streak is its longest since posting a nine-game streak last season from April 7th to the 20th.

• IU is 9-0 at Bart Kaufman Field this season and in the stadium's seven-year history, the Hoosiers boast a record of 121-37-1 (.764).

• Freshman Grant Richardson and junior Tanner Gordon swept the Big Ten weekly awards on Monday. Richardson was named the Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Week, while Gordon earned Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors. It marked the first weekly awards for both players in their career.

• It is the first time in program history that Indiana has earned all three weekly awards. Additionally, the Hoosiers have earned at least one weekly award the last four weeks, which hasn't happened since the 3014 season.

• Richardson hit .471 on the week with two home runs, 11 RBI, two doubles and a stolen base. In last Tuesday's win at Indiana State, he went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI.

• In his first nine career games, he is hitting .417 with 15 hits, 11 runs, three home runs and 17 RBI (tied for second on the team).

• Gordon fanned a career-high 12 batters against the Hawkeyes on Saturday, besting last's weeks 10-strikeout effort against Canisius. In his last two starts, the junior righty has struck out 22 batters, while allowing just seven hits and two earned runs in 15 innings.

• Indiana leads the conference in runs (153), RBI (137), slugging percentage (.466), and home runs (34).

• Since the start of the 2008 season, Indiana leads the Big Ten in wins (399) and conference wins (164). The Hoosiers have made six NCAA Regionals over that span, the most out of any current Big Ten team.

No Kaletha after injury Sunday. I saw an IU baseball player in a walking boot walking into basketball game yesterday from parking lot but unsure if it was Kaletha or someone else.

Beauchamp get his first start of year and gets a double play to get out of 1st with no damage. Its throwback day so IU in old uniforms and an organ today (watching at home not at game).

Cross starting at catcher to give Fineman day off and Van Pelt replaces Kaletha in lineup. Nothing doing in IU first either and we head to second scoreless.

Our terrible defense returns as Houston boots a ball at short then Barr boots one at third. Then a wild pitch and a perfectly placed bunt single plate a run. Than Beauchamp gets a strikeout but after boots another bunt for a second run. Than a double in the left field corner results in 2 more. So 4 fundamental mistakes result in 2 errors and 4 runs. Would of been zero if we knew how to play defense like last few games but its 4 because we forgot how to play D again like early in season. Cross also saved about 2 more wild pitches as Beauchamp all over the place.

We steal a 2nd run because Kent State first baseman made an idiotic double play decision. Instead of forcing the runner at 2nd first then returning to first to create a force so run doesn't count (he had plenty of time) he stepped on first then tagged the runner at second in a non force situation which by the time happened the runner from third came in.

IU cuts lead to 4-2 heading to third but still has 4 mistakes to that one by Kent State above.

Even on a strikeout Beauchamp has a wild pitch. Fortunately because he was wild on batter before causing a walk, first base was occupied so runner automatically out. Beauchamp gets 2 more strikeouts but still all over the place and its 4-2 to bottom 3.

Tied at 4 because Kent St has as terrible of fielding as IU. 1st and 2nd 2 outs and Houston hit an easy ground ball to short. However, the throw to first was behind Kent State 1st baseman into right field and both runs score. One of the sloppiest games I have ever seen from both teams.

Houston tries to steal home for the lead but during next at bat but gets tagged out easily. Mistake filled game tied at 4 that should be 1-0 IU if teams didn't make mistakes.

To the 5th and a brand new game.

Defense finally shows up that inning as Bierman fielded a tough high chop off the mound for an out and Cross makes a great sliding catch for an out in foul territory in front of IU dugout. 4-4 to Bottom 5.

Kent State takes the lead back on a lead off double, ground out that moves runner to third, walk and an infield single. Not really bad defense but we changed pitchers to Manous who was not sharp.

Stretch time..

Kent St. tacks another run on a 5th error that actually had nothing to do with run. A 2 out RBI single scores a run. That was going to happen no matter what but no one covered first on the throw back in allowing runner to take 2nd.

Kent St got another single to try to stretch lead to 3. However, a great throw to home is in time. The ball pops out of Cross' glove but runner is called out for railroading the catcher (same rule as MLB instituted a while ago added to college this yr). Not sure that's the right call but IU will take it and Jeff Duncan is thrown out of the game for Kent St for arguing the call.

IU gets both back on back to back HR's in Bottom 8 by Lloyd and Dunham. Lloyd's went barely over the left field fall just under scoreboard and Dunham's into bullpen. That railroading call now looming large or IU would still be down. Also could have lead as Ashley called out on controversial play right before HR at first where Kent St first baseman leg came off and back onto bag but I think was right call. 6-6 Still batting Bottom 8.

Error number 6 for IU as a tough ground ball to third Barr should of been eaten but instead throws a feeble ball to first allowing runner to take 2nd with one out. Kent St. still batting top 9.
