IU Men's Soccer News and Notes

Interesting. Going with the seniors which makes sense but only Glass is an elite player among those guys. Palazzolo is decent but lacks finishing skills at times and Warr is a backup.

Like all these guys and agree with naming the upperclassmen but definitely not the best players outside of Glass.

Glass Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

Indiana men's soccer redshirt senior defender Spencer Glass was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, the United Soccer Coaches and Missouri Athletic Club announced on Thursday afternoon.

The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year.

Glass is one of 35 players on the Watch List and is one of four from the Big Ten Conference, joining Giuseppe Barone (Michigan State), Liam Butts (Penn State), and Jackson Ragen (Michigan).

The Fort Wayne, Ind., native has started in 27 of his 64 career games played along the defensive backline for Indiana. Indiana opens the 2020-21 season on Feb. 19 as hosts to the Wisconsin Badgers.

The MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists are compiled by members of the United Soccer Coaches Men's and Women's NCAA Division I All-America Committees. Fifteen semifinalists will be named for both the men's and women's MAC Hermann Trophy near the end of the college season based on voting by NCAA Division I coaches and from those candidates, three finalists will ultimately be placed on the ballot for the coveted award.

Indiana men's soccer will head into the 2020-21 season ranked as the seventh-best team in the country according to Top Drawer Soccer, the publication announced on Monday.

Indiana is among three Big Ten Conference teams ranked in the top-25, joining Maryland (No. 21) and Penn State (No. 23). Michigan sits just outside of the poll in the 'others considered' category.

Last season, Indiana secured its 10th Big Ten double, and second in as many seasons, after winning both the regular season and tournament crowns. The Hoosiers landed the fifth seed in the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The seed marked the 15th time in 17 years that IU earned a top-16 seed and 10th time as a top-8 seed during that span.

IU reached the NCAA Tournament for the 33rd-straight season in 2019 and for an NCAA-record 44th time in program history. The Hoosiers also hold the NCAA record with 20 College Cup appearances.

Consistent with IU Athletics' ongoing efforts to protect the health and safety of students, coaches, staff, spectators and the local community, men's soccer matches will be played without fans indefinitely. IU Athletics' decision is in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and is consistent with what has transpired on all Big Ten campuses.

25 minutes ago, Class of '66 Old Fart said:

Certainly not an offseason update, but our match against Penn State scheduled for March 7, is postponed because of COVID issues in Penn States tier 1 personnel.

Next match will now be against the Badgers in Madison on Thursday, March 11.

Knew that was coming after PSU-Michigan was cancelled for positive PSU Covid tests earlier in week.
