BLOOMINGTON, Ind.  – The Indiana women's soccer team coming off their home opening win over Valpariso will travel to Notre Dame for a match televised on the ACC Network on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. ET.

SCOUTING THE NOTRE DAME
Notre Dame finished 6-7 in the 2020-21 season as they played in both the fall and spring. In the fall 2021 season the Fighting Irish won their season opener 3-1 against Bowling Green. Bowling Green went 6-1-1 in the 2020 season and won the MAC Championship. Notre Dame won exhibition games over Ohio State (3-2) and Illinois (4-0).

FRESHMEN CONNECTION
In the Hoosiers home opening win over Valpo, it was the freshmen connection of Camille Hamm to Jordyn Levy that provided victory for the Hoosiers. Hamm sent a ball to Levy, who put it away for the game-winning goal.

2021 SPRING SEASON
The 2021 spring season was historic for the Hoosiers. Indiana tied a program record for Big Ten wins and established a new school record for Big Ten points in a season with 19. On March 2, the Hoosiers were ranked in the top-25 for the first time since 2013.

PRESEASON POLL AND HONORS
The Big Ten announced its Women's Soccer Preseason Players to Watch List on Monday with senior Hanna Nemeth, junior Avery Lockwood and freshman Jamie Gerstenberg representing Indiana. In addition, the preseason poll was unveiled with the Hoosiers coming in in sixth place. Both were voted on by the conference coaches.

Lockwood, a midfielder from Grand Rapids, Mich., earned All-Big Ten Third Team honors and was selected by the United Soccer Coaches to the All-North Region third team in the 2021 spring season. Lockwood, a leader for Indiana's offense, scored a couple of game winners against Michigan and Michigan State. She started in all 12 games tallying a total of 24 shots and 15 shots on goal. Nemeth scored her first career goal against Penn State on March 4 and held Indiana's back line strong aiding the Hoosiers four shutouts, including a shutout of Michigan for the first time since 2009.

NEW FACES FOR THE HOOSIERS
The Hoosiers have several new players on the roster that should see playing time this season. Among them are eight freshmen and three transfers. The Hoosiers return their entire starting lineup from the 2021 spring season as well.

TOKYO OLYMPICS
Sophomore Gabi Rennie made the New Zealand national team for the Tokyo Olympics. In New Zealand's first match of the Olympics, against Australia, Rennie entered the game in the 89th minute and two minutes later scored a goal on her only touch of the game. It was extra special for Rennie as her brother Liam, a member of the New Zealand media attended the game.

Neither team can score after 110 minutes and it ends in a 0-0 tie.  Hoosiers with only 5 shots; none on goal and 1 corner.  We committed 16 fouls.  ND with 13 total shots but only 3 of which were on goal and 9 corners.  The Irish committed 13 fouls.

While we couldn't muster any offense, our defense and our freshman goalkeeper did their job.  Women will be back in Bloomington next Thursday  to host UT Martin.

Does ND have a strong women’s team?

Our head coach post-game:  "I’m very proud of the whole team and happy to get a draw out of this tough away game. ND is a good team, and probably the best team that they have had in the last five years and for us to get our first ever result against them, especially on the road is very good."
