If true we are probably not getting romeo

I don't see it that way. We clearly need shooters on this team. It's not like we are stockpiled with depth at any positions.  If anything it means some of the guys we are seeing this year will get less minutes next year which is good.

I didnt think archie liked 3 guard lineups. Doing it out of necessity this year

I don't think this kid will start. He probably grew up an IN fan. Romeo is your usual guard anyway. 6'5-6'6... not 6'2.

Plus just think of the lack of depth we have at guard. We need more depth there.

If we are only doing 2 guards next year and get Romeo we will have enough guards.

No we don't. Phinisee and Green at the one. Romeo (who will play plenty of the 3). Durham who is very limited at this point. No we don't have enough guards.

Archie doesnt use deep lineups opting to go 7 maybe 8 deep.

3 guys to 2 positions is about right. With Mcroberts also. And wanting to play Damezi and Hunter some at SG.

Hunter cannot defend the 2. Anderson isn't ready... what happens if there's an injury? We need this kid. We've played more guys than 7 or 8 in every game.....

The last 3 close games we have played 9,8,9 players with the 9s being the result of foul trouble.

If Hunter can defend in the pack line he can defend the 2. Thats how the packline works.

And if DD was healthy it would have been 10, 9, 10.

No it's not how the packline works. You still have to be able to guard your individual man. I teach the pack line now, grew up playing in it.

I for one don't want to rely on FR playing defense. I'll take SRs.

I hate to be this guy, but I heard from people in his hometown that Toledo SG Jaelan Sanford was graduating early and would come to IU to play his final season. He was a first team all state choice in 2015 and is a lights out 3 point shooter. I don't know if anyone has heard anything about this so I thought I'd ask. Something to watch for sure.

This same rumor was posted on peegs awhile back. So, this is not the first I have heard of it. Both snow and Rabs said IU will most certainly look for grad transfer guards in the off season but arent going to just take anyone.

Also, it seemed pretty clear on peegs that getting a grad transfer guard has nothing to do with the romeo recruitment. IU needs more experienced guards next year

Hes coached for 7 years and in close games uses a rotation of 6-8. Yeah we have no clue lol

Possibly because he didn’t have the personnel at Dayton to go 9-10 deep? If we were to get Romeo and this seemingly solid SG (which we desperately need) I could very easily see us going 9-10 deep. He didn’t have the quality of players at Dayton that he is going to be reeling in here. Just because he didn’t use bigger rotations at his previous school doesn’t mean he won’t entertain the idea if he has some depth.

Ahh.. we are comparing the talent at Dayton to that in which he should have at IU. Gotcha.. also.. you realize two of those tourney teams he had runs with at Dayton had 1-2 players hurt on each?

Again.. We have room and PT for Sanford. He could start, probably not... you can call it three guards if you want, but Romeo again is 6-5 or 6-6. We'd hardly struggle against bigger lineups.

If true, this would be a FANTASTIC pull:

  • All-MAC academic as a business management major.
  • Best defender on a team that is reasonably likely NCAA bound.
  • 16.7 ppg, 38.2% from three, 84.6% from free throw line
  • Good SG size at 6'4", 195
  • From Evansville

What's not to love about that? A whole lot better than speculating about another Priller/April type.

I go to a MAC school and I've watched him play, really solid fundamentally and solid defender. Not sure he'd be a big ten standout, but a great role player I'd think

I watched him a lot throughout his high school career at Reitz. I think he has developed a lot during his time at Taledo. If he buys in he could be a good player for us. Also too add a spice to this, his Reitz team was beat by homestead for the State championship led by Caleb Swanigan. I would love to beat Purdue with this kid. Lol

I thought he was on that Reitz team. Couldn't remember. 2-2-1 half court trap haha
