TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

There is just this feeling I have that the attitudes of the coach and players this yr reflects the fact that it's all coming to an end.  The program to me has this lost feeling more so than any other year under Crean excluding the obvious rebuilding yrs.  But I'm like alot of others on here, I only want a change if it's the "home run hire"  It's time for that type of hire to happen to get back.  Let's pull out all the stops and go get a big dog.  Let's get back to the freaking Indiana Hoosiers we all love!

More than likely it's not going to be a "homerun" hire for must on here.  Knight wasn't that hire when we got him from Army, how  did that work out?  It's going to be someone that a few understand and most roll their eyes.  I just hope it happens. Still not sold that CTC is done here yet.

Hoiberg would be an extremely wise, completely excellent hire for any high major college program.
Other than Stevens and Donovan, I can't imagine who would be a better combination of youth, charisma, player appreciation, detail and hard work , and big program experience and results.
AND... with Hoiberg I betcha the current players and recruits would overwhelmingly want to stay at IU.

Here's a name. Someone tell me why I'm right or wrong because I don't feel like doing research, the name just popped into my head a minute ago. Mike White of Florida, formerly Louisiana Tech. Seems like an up-and-comer but I know next to nothing about him except that I like his PG this year. Corizzo or something. Go!

Only been at UF for 1+ years. I can't imagine he'd be ready to change addresses again so soon.
Great young coach though.

You also use to defend Crean.  No thanks!  Not at a blue blood program!

I still think CTC is a good man, but real results after awhile is also a requirement.

Ive reached the point where I don't see real results coming.

I will not defend every potential replacement hire: but I'm okay with Archie, Hoiberg, and maybe Mack.

I'm also not the least bit interested in posts that suggest guys that will not be interested in IUBB such as Wright, Self, Bennett, Alford, Sean Miller, etc.

I don't see Bennett leaving a top 15 ACC program.

You will always be no better then 3rd behind Duke and North Carolina in the ACC. (Always battle Syracuse and Louisville for 3rd) If he came to IU he could be the top coach (assuming izzo doesn't stay forever) at the top school in the B1G. Even if you Finish better then duke and North Carolina they will always be the talk of the league

Best argument for him leaving I have heard. Great points. I do think he is very comfortable there though.

For me its

1. Marshall

2. Bennett

3. Tie between Archie Miller and Smith.

Those guys have proven to have championship level defenses multiple times and recently. So they know how to defend todays game and have adapted well.

All 4 are viable options in my opinion. IU is a better program than the ones they are at.  IU will pay more and has better natural recruiting grounds to get talent from.

Id pass on hoiberg bc he never has shown to coach a championship level defense, so its much like Crean. Unless I missed his top 20 defenses somewhere....

Using IU to leverage a big $$$ extension from UVA?
That I could see.

The administration that fired his sister is gone. His other reason for saying no before was he wasnt ready for that big of a job. The man has won the ACC, he is ready for the job now. If he says no, fine, but you cant just rule him out. This isnt a Stevens/Boston Celtics situation. Its freaking Virginia, currently the 5th best program in the ACC. They are behind Duke, UNC, Cuse, Lville in prestige and importance.  On a given year they could be lower than that.

Izzo has personal accountability, a sound team defense(for most years), and a tough non-con schedule to have his team prepared for B1G play and March.

Did Crean spend his tenure under Izzo with his hands over his ears yelling, "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA"?

According to Crean, he was responsible for making signs to hold up during the game. I'm not sure if they needed them or if it was his "special" task.

I don't rule Bennett out; I think he's excellent.
I just don't see it.

I'd put Bennett above Marshall.

Marshall has at least won consistently everywhere he's been with resources similar to his opponents, so I do think he's am improvement.  Crean can't win consistently even with better resources than most programs in the country.

I'm so fed up with watching Crean's street ball offense that I'd probably dance a jig if the new coach ran the exact opposite style.

Granted 'opposite style' just means taking care of the ball, being fundamental, and not forcing a 3 just because you crossed half court.
