Donovan is a bigger pipedream than Stevens. Donovan has always wanted to be NBA. That whole Orlando ordeal.

I don't think he'll be in NCAA anytime soon.

Have to agree with you, plus who would leave an NBA head coaching job that has Westbrook and Oladipo!

For the right opportunity, he might be persuaded to leave.  To me, he seemed to love the teaching aspect of the game...not sure how much of that he can really do in the NBA.

I think if Billy does leave the NBA, it will be to replace Rick Pitino at Louisville. For that reason I think he stays in the NBA until Pitino retires.

Like lack of connections and chances to succeed? Coaching fraternity is tight and exclusive. Hard to get an IN unless you know the right people.

Plus, very few people sell themselves as well as Tom Crean sells himself. He would be a very good politician. Or salesman. He's also a better than average coach. He's a talented guy but he's not even close to being an Elite coach.

X's and O's and how they apply to a game as it is being played---Not Crean's strong suit.

There are plenty of ways in to college basketball, especially in the state that supposedly values the high school game so much.

Plus, saying a good high school coach would do well as a college coach is like saying a good college coach would succeed in the NBA. All completely different challenges and styles.

Not calling Crean great, just trying to argue against some of the more hyperbolic "anything is better than Crean" sentiment.

I could easily find 10 high school coaches in this area that realize "playing fast" leads to a lot of turnovers, turnovers lead to Ls, and how to curb that strategy. Yet, our "fearless leader" continues to deflect by saying "we didn't shoot well", "we are young", etc. That's just nonsense.

I do agree college coaching is clearly a cut above high school but strategy and basketball knowledge can be found in high school gyms all over the state.

Crean plays that style to help his recruiting efforts. All kids want to play fast and loose.

Problem is....We STILL aren't recruiting well enough to make this style work. Need to out athlete other teams. And defend.

We are NOW recruiting smart kids and playing dumb basketball.

Not arguing that. But obviously if there were coaches in high school floating around capable of doing better than a handful of Sweet Sixteens and B1G Titles, they'd be found.

I'm curious as to how serious some of these guys are that they think high school coaches could outcoach Crean....... Of course there are people on here who have suggested going and getting D2, D3, and NAIA coaches to take over the program cause they're from Indy, who cares that they'd never even compete recruiting wise. So they probably do believe that

I don't know if they could compete on the recruiting trail to field as good of a team but as a flat out coach X's O's, teaching fundamentals, getting the best out of a player, sub patterns I sure do think some could compete with him.

He sure did and he made bryant look great. Bryant should of gone pro last year as his stock will never be that high again.

Bryant wouldn't have made a roster. He'd be stuck in perpetual D league or Euro league.

Bryant seems to enjoy college. I think he made a good choice as he is trying to improve enough to actually make a roster. Not sure it's going to happen though with his athletic ceiling being so low.

Not athletic enough to play any position in the NBA. Kind of like Watford in that way.

I thought Watfords size and shooting actually gave him a better chance.

I'm still hoping to see Bryant take that next step somehow and be an NBA success, somehow. I'm just having a hard time seeing him overcome athletic disadvantages.
