We've already had a shooter-first in Woodson's system, Parker Stewart. And while he was a good 3 point shooter by percentage, that's about all he could do. Couldn't dribble, couldn't get to the hole, couldn't create for others, etc Woodson's system is all about 1 and 2 man games. Guards have to be able to win 1 on 1 matchups vs their defenders in order for the system to work. We've had one guard in 3 seasons who could consistently win those matchups. Carlyle and Rice is the most dynamic backcourt duo CMW will have had to date.

That's my assessment as well. I think both Carlyle and Rice will be ~35% on 5-6 attempts a game which translates to 1.5-2 makes a game and then Mgbako I think will be ~37% on 7-8 attempts which again translates to 2.75-3 makes a game. On the low end that comes out to just under 200 made 3's. That alone eclipses last years total of 166 made 3's just from 3 players. Those guys are going to get a ton of looks next year with Reneau and Ballo who are almost automatic under the rim. If Rice and Carlyle can hit open 3's next year (something our back court couldn't do at all last season) this will be a very tough offense to stop. Opposing defenders aren't going to sag off of guys like Rice or Carlyle, they'll get run out of the gym if they do.

I think every leaf in the forest points to him coming here and he's doing the exact same thing Rice did this last weekend; silently committed awhile ago and is taking his visit to make sure he doesn't absolutely hate the place before making it official. No intel on Malone other than IU still needs post depth and it's going to be a challenge to find another big with only 10-15 mpg available. Round out the class with Malone and Humrichous and it's likely the best haul you could have asked for.

You forgot this for Trish: 4. I have doubled and tripled down on Mike Woodson not being able to succeed so the idea of actually having a good team next year scares the crap out of me.

I think Carlyle is a done deal. I would guess Elijah Malone is the next domino to fall.

I don't like that Bradshaw committed to Ohio State. Figured he was UNC bound, UNC has a visit lined up for Ballo. No clue if they would match our offer or not but he may now be a bigger priority for them.

Yeah I would agree. If you get Ballo, Payne and Williams are off the table in my opinion. You could possibly take the NAIA kid for an insurance policy, but Reneau and Ballo playing a bulk of the minutes at the 5 allows you to slide Mgbako to the 4 and play a heavy 3 guard lineup. And unless they do add someone like Humrichous I would expect Mgbako to get his fair share of minutes at the 4.

Hickman obviously has a connection with Drew Adams who recruited him to Bradley, but not so sure he wouldn’t face the same issue there as he would here in terms of playing time and role. From what I can tell 4 of their top 5 guards return, they are bringing in a top 50 wing, and CJ Fredrick would probably get a 6th year waiver considering he missed most of last season on top of taking a redshirt a few years back. I’d actually argue there’s a better avenue to playing time at Indiana.

He wasn’t a great 3 point shooter by %, that’s been discussed ad nauseam. He could still shoot off the bounce, pull up in PnR, and get to the hole and finish. He shot over 80% from the line. Those are all shot making qualities. IU has had one shot making guard in 3 years whose first year stats rival Rice.

Rice scored like Edey or TJD last year? Got it. Shot making isn’t limited to making 3 pointers, as hard as that is to believe for some.

I wasn’t aware there was an alternate way of scoring without making shots. When did this new concept come into play?

You don’t average 15 a game as a freshman if you can’t make shots. And I don’t need a highlight tape to tell me that either, Chief.
