NGW also said not to believe an article quoting Dalton Knecht saying his IU visit had to be rescheduled because Woody decided to have knee surgery. Just sayin . . .

Coach Portal should have been shown the door at seasons end and definitely after his lone recruit left. It’s obvious that coach Portal and his staff doesn't want to put in the effort that it takes to be a good recruiter, let alone a great recruiter. The writing was on the wall when MM’s mom contacted coach Portal about her son wanting to play at IU!
Now the team is going to go from a $hit show to one of a liquid form next year and a new coach won’t have a chance at getting his hooks into the 25’ class of in state players. It’s sad. I’ve been an IU fan for over 40 years now and I’ve never been so down on any team that I support in any sport, btw I’m a Cubs fan. I feel it’s only going to get worse because who would want to play for a lame duck coach that has split the fan base? I’m not a rocket scientist nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn, but I’d guess there aren’t very many!
Btw Chris 007 keep doing what you do! Who cares if someone is butt hurt over something you said!Great first post. Welcome to the board.
And, for God’s sake, hurry up and get nine more posts so you can rid yourself forever of that nasty Purdue Jockstrap.

Was it meant to deliberately piss off the fans? I don’t know - just as much as you can’t say it wasn’t pre-arranged.
For all of Leal’s contributions - or lack thereof - this year, he is returning to the tune of $225k. Hell, I’d tell people to “chill” if I got to be a benchwarmer for that kind of jack.

7 minutes ago, AH1971 said:Is announcing on their senior night that they were returning to school for their Covid year some deep state conspiracy lol?
It is if they already knew that they were returning, which they obviously knew since they announced it.
Remember also on the Friday before - two days prior to senior day - Woodson told the media he had no idea whether either of them was doing senior day. So we’re supposed to believe that in the span of 48 hours they not only decided they were going to stay, but decided to go through with being on senior day and in their speeches allude to the fact that we “needed to chill”?
if you believe all of that, I’ve got a bridge in San Francisco I’d love to sell you . . .

If you don't want to give credit to Woodson, I'm cool with that. Don't know how you can't be happy for the players, though.
Penn State was 5-5 in their last 10 games. They did have a win against Illinois in that span, but most of those wins were against the bottom feeders.
Today’s gonna tell us whether we’ve really turned the corner or not. Nebraska is a pretty decent team and if we beat them then, yeah, you’ve showed me something.

Woodson just can’t help but give a smarta** remark on a standard question that Katz asked about that play. He could have explained what they were trying to do, like most coaches do, but instead popped by at Katz and “you seen the play”. What real horses a**!
It's like he's trying to be snarly like Knight was, only he doesn't have the cred to back it up.

Exactly.
some people are ecstatic we won four straight but who the hell did we really beat teams that are playing poorly down the stretch.
I want to see what we do against Purdue, Illinois and other really good teams then I’ll say we’ve turned the corner or not. my money is we get thumped like we have already this year.

Neither Wisconsin or MSU is sub .500 in either conference or overall play.
What have they done their last 10 games?

Either Dolson does not want his name on a direct report because he disagrees with the decision and it his only way to protest, or, they legitimately don’t think they have to and we don’t deserve/need verification. The silence from his office during this is deafening. I don’t think it means anything we want is happening, but it is interesting.
I’m surprised no one in the media has asked that question during a news conference or post game press conference.

One thing to note with the Carolina success: much like recruiting one and done five star freshmen, Carolina had some building blocks already in place with Armando Bacot, and RJ Davis - much like Kentucky had with Darius Miller when they win in 2012, or Duke with Quin Cook when they won in 2015.
Whether you’re planning on building your roster with one and done’s or through the portal, you need established players already in place to make either process work to develop a championship level team.

From experience I know that different people have different timeframes for getting back to whatever normal is going to be for them after a knee replacement.
That’s fair. Hindsight is always 20/20.
Had Woodson not had the surgery until May/June would have we been able to get Knecht here for a visit BEFORE he took his trip to Knoxville? Maybe, maybe not.
What we DO know is once he got to Rocky Top, no one else got a chance. Knecht would have been an impact player for us. Critical miss.

Agreed.
Chris will readily admit that something he stated prior has been proven to have been false. Hell, nobody believed Woodward & Bernstein either until John Dean and Alexander Butterfield blew Watergate wide open.

Deflect all you want.
The KID HIMSELF said the visit was postponed because of Woodson’s surgery. You say “it wasn’t” - but provide nothing of context to support that statement.
Hmmm . . . believe you, or believe a direct quote from the kid? Pretty easy choice.

6 minutes ago, IUCrazy2 said:I have no dog in this fight, but seriously..."forget what the reporter who talked to the kid and reported what the kid told him, listen to me."
Woodson's surgery had everything to do with us not getting the visit. You can argue it didn't have anything to do with us landing Knecht because Tennessee just blew him away on the visit, but you are really operating in a murky area if that is your argument. I am not buying the starter thing with Knecht, that is something you sus out through an agent before you commit to a visit.
Regarding the starter argument: read in the article where Knecht himself said he just wanted to compete for a starting spot. So isn’t it fair to assume that if he was willing to compete at Tennessee - where there was more of a log jam at his position - he would have been just as willing to compete at Indiana? Only makes sense to me.

Which is EXACTLY why we needed to send him packing NOW.
It’d be different if Woodson was some kind of NBA horse whisperer that was developing guys straight to the league and winning championships. But he’s not - his first two years he made the tournament because of having TJD on the roster; this year he missed the dance altogether despite multiple 5 stars.
Now we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. Guy is 66 years old, plays an offense nearly as old. And now we’re handicapping him with questions about whether he’ll be around and there’s no way in hell you want to extend him.
IU administration once again has f¥{£Ed this basketball team/program.
