Coach Portal finally got that elusive knock down shooter with Tucker. Wait, wait, who am I kidding! Tucker is know for his mid range game.

At first I thought it was PJ Tucker kid but PJ shoots the 3 well.

It actually surprises me in so many ways, this phenom going on within our fanbase. It's as if all nuance is dead. Very tribal.

Cannot conceive of a world where people share what they hear and situations evolve. Just because someone shares what they hear and the situation evolves then plays out differently, does not mean that it wasn't true at the time they heard/shared it. I've never seen you or Jerry frame a post in a definitive way unless you were sure of it, and those things have happened. Even actual paid media people who break stories for a living, have been "wrong" about what they reported would happen (EX: ISP had the scoop on Essegian going back into portal). Most of the time they are right/consistent... and most of the time, what they are hearing is aligned with what our posters hear. This righteous indignation - as if speaking negatively about Mike Woodson's job as HC - is a personal affront, is weird.

The desire to "keep receipts" as NGW has put it, tell others what they're allowed to say or feel, that maybe they'll "allow" you to root for the team next year if you keep being positive (this is all on Twitter, not here, to be clear) ... is f***ing weird, and tiresome. Do people not have a right to be skeptical? I didn't realize you lose your right to be a fan if you acknowledge glaring issues. Don't think that was the case until Mike Woodson decided to tell everyone it was.

I just want to put it out there that I have never worked in the athletic department. I have never once said I have. I officiated practices in Assembly Hall under Crean but have never worked in that department or have claimed I have.

Looks to me to be people who are trying to find any sliver a positivity in a terrible situation.  I don’t think anyone here is forgetting how bad of coach he is in the college game however showing signs of happiness for the program doesn’t automatically mean people like the coaching situation.  I personally haven’t seen anyone here wanting to make we are so back shirts. You can be happy things happen to the program and still think IU needs a coaching change.  If you are talking about fans elsewhere then I apologize but I don’t see that here.  My guess is over 95 percent of this board still want a new coach despite a recent recruiting win

No I have not seen it here and was talking more about it on Twitter. So many fans are trying to have a gotcha moment. I should have been more clear that I was talking about social media and not on here.

Adding a 5* is great and we needed to be more athletic, but yeah it's still Woodson. The Globetrotters couldn't carry him to a final four.

How many 5* did we have last season? Plus 5* freshmen take longer to pick up the college game.

Woodson didn't target 31 high school recruits. That was the assistants. Woodson missed on like 3 that he actually prioritized.

Exactly why would Woodson target that many kids, he hates going out to watch AAU and HS games. Just tell him who the really good players are, then try to get them on campus, preferably in the spring because that is golf season and he's in a good mood. Then he'll tell them some cool NBA stories and try to get them to commit.

Well that sucks for the mob and pitchforks

Your right he dominates the offseason. The Big Ten season not so much. The non-conference season not much there either but when nothing is on the line and you can pay players he is one of the best.

    Tucker 3

    Mgbako 4

    Reneau 5

Need a defensive first backup big with length

Two of those three do not want to play the position we fans want them to play. We'll see if I'm wrong but part of the negotiation for one of them and an ongoing negotiation for the other is to play where they want. MM is a 3 he says, MR is a 4 not a 5 in their opinions. That doesn't mean they won't play those spots some but they feel they are 3's and 4's.

This place has been doing this for over 10 years now and that’s not going to change even with a lame duck coach that 99 percent of people want to move on from.   Isn’t that part of the fun for people projecting possible rosters?   I’m old enough to remember Mario Kegler looking good in candy stripes before he chose someone else.  Anthony Lee was going to be a missing piece for the Hoosiers as a grad transfer.  Then he was going to torch IU because he ended up going to Ohio St.  slowing down isn’t as much fun as projecting rosters that most won’t come to light.  Some   IU fans are in a rough spot and that sucks.   Getting a 5 star kid should be celebrated throughout the fan base but with where most stand with the head coach that’s not possible.   Here’s hoping next year will be back to normal

You are so correct. Yes, it is fun with the possible guys but it's different when we need so many spots. I hope he's amazing.

That is what I assumed but from what I was reading I thought the implication was that we only landed high level guys by guaranteeing them a starting spot.
I’ll admit my interpretation of the post might be incorrect.

That is not correct but we have made promises. But hopefully we're paying enough we don't need to pay and promise

Promises all depend on need and player.   Also very easy to tell a player what you envision their role being with it not being a lie if it doesn’t work out.   And some coaches (Self) will flat out lie about it to get guys in.  Remember in Bates’ case that he Decommitted after Shaka Smart was fired at Texas and wanted to play for an African American coach.

All that is true but what I said is true also. Certain players ask for promises. Mgbako wanted a promise he would be a starter. When you have to recruit in the spring to get certain players you make promises. As you said Self lies. Some coaches won't promise to be a starter but will promise 20-25 minutes a game. These things do happen. Unfortunately our coach makes them more than others

You totally glossed over my first point about Tucker.  BTW, Tamar Bates was a high ranked incoming freshman at IU and he wasn’t a starter and he was here two years.

There have for sure been starting spots promised in the past. If Bates didn't get a promise that is his fault. Mgbako for sure did. Did Tucker, we'll find out later on.
