I never thought the grouping we had last year was the most talented team in the B1G, even in July. I'm not in tune with where 247, On3, Rivals rank these guys, I don't feel those sites are all that good at their jobs.
So, I believe you, I just don't find it relevant to the talent we are (seemingly) adding.

You act as if playing through the post is some archaic system. News flash, there are literally dozens among dozens of teams “who play through the post” that still emphasize shooting from the perimeter, namely the two teams who played for the national title game Monday night. Also that Arizona team with Tubelis and Ballo included.
“Playing through the post” does not literally mean ball goes in and doesn’t come out, no matter how much you want to think it does. I’m not sure what you saw out of our back court this last season that would make you think taking MORE perimeter shots would have lead to a better outcome? The personnel simply did not exist with that fault laying at the feet of Woodson.
The new wave of guards the staff are coveting are of a completely different dynamic. Three level scorers of who can not only create for themselves but for others. I would expect the volume of perimeter shots to increase exponentially next year if we land our priority targets.

I was told by a certain poster, maybe @Golfman25 that it was next to impossible to land 3 top 50 players from the portal (as it had only been done once) and that "Mediocre Mike" had no chance "BEcaUsE hE waS goLfInG" (during the dead period). Seems like there's a 95% chance we get at least two top 15 guards (Rice #14 and Carlyle #10) and we seem to be in a good spot to land the overall #1 player in Ballo.
Who would have thought that a coach playing golf at 8am on a Sunday morning the night after the F4 could flip the script so fast?

This Kentucky search shoukd be a cautionary tale to some posters on here who believe getting a "home run " higher can happen when IU moves on from CMW. That isn't to say we fans shouldn't hope for a homerun and IU shouldn't try for one, but that it is possible IU settles.
Personally, I hope we get a home run hire and stick it to Kentucky

Absolutely if IU decides to hire another coach without any college basketball coaching experience however if IU hires someone like Kentucky just did that has been in the grind of coaching college basketball and being respected by other coaches in the college profession then IU might have a chance of turning the corner

I kinda wish our fan base could get past Brad Stevens.
    He ain't coming here.
He wasn't in 2021 and he won't if/when Woody departs.
He's the President of Basketball Operations of the most storied NBA franchise, which is currently 6 games ahead of everybody else for the league's best record. He's stated several times he's happy in New England. He's not gonna give that up to return to recruiting and coaching kids.
Yet every time we talk about a new coach, that name pops up. Give him all the money he wants, they say.
    It's silly.

The same landscape as it is now.  People were crapping on the idea of hiring Dusty May but that is the pool you will be picking from.  The "big" names aren't leaving their jobs anymore because the "big" names are often already established at places where they make good money and have job security.

In the last 3 years, 5 of the top 7 programs of all-time in this sport by my estimation have been open.
    1. North Carolina—-hired Hubert Davis, no college HC experience
    2. Duke—-hired Jon Scheyer, no college head coaching experience
    3. Kentucky——hired Mark Pope, coached at Utah Valley and BYU, zero tournament wins
    4. Indiana——hired Mike Woodson, no college head coaching experience
    5. Louisville x2——Kenny Payne no college head coaching experience and Pat Kelsey, coached at Winthrop and College of Charleston, zero tournament wins
Throw in Arizona whom I consider a top 10 program that hired Tommy Lloyd (no head coaching experience) as well as Syracuse hiring Adrian Autry (no head coaching experience). Ponder that, it’s a crapshoot.

Should show people where college basketball is right now to head coaches.  This isn’t the old days anymore. If you got a good thing elsewhere you don’t need the brand names to gain exposure.  Every game is televised somewhere.  Back in the day it wasn’t like that.  At least Kentucky went with a college basketball guy (who runs elite offensive sets).   Not the big splash fans would want but a guy that will make them competitive.  Good hire for them just won’t win the press conference

That is what I wondered too. If the duration of the season caught to him. I mean it has to be super taxing on a player under normal circumstances. But to have to throw in recovering from cancer it very much could have impacted his shooting.

I would run naked through campus with excitement with that lineup. As I tell my wife don’t worry no one is going to see anything.

No I’m all seriousness that’s a home run for the portal.

Conwell, Evansville kid, whichever big comes first and Hickman along with Rice and we can wrap this thread up in a nice bow.  Leave last one open for a late add

It's the age-old issue.  No coach has really had the players with the right skill set to employ in his scheme.
RMK, at the end, did not get his smart, team-oriented, ball players...until the Jeffries team which was too late.
Crean did not get the Dwayne pro or greyhound wing players.  But he did not realize that.
Archie didn't get his stellar guard that he needed.  That and long-limbed defensive oriented team players.
Woody has not gotten his outside-oriented ballers that can create and handle the ball. Where is that PG and SG and Sf?
It is tough to coach a team that doesn't fit.

Gonzaga passed them in that category last year since Purdue lost to a 16 seed. So I guess Purdue took back what was rightfully theirs.
