Indiana vs Virginia Game Thread 09/08 7:30PM ET BTN
Lebowski replied to ThompsonHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Great win! Horrible weather. Power 5 opponent. Front 5 and front 7 controlled the line of scrimmage. Ramsey and Scott is exactly what Coach Allen is looking for on the offensive side. It's not pretty but effective. Ramsey's ability to run the ball is the reason why Scott racked up 200+ on a power 5 conference football team. If Virginia didn't adjust after IU's first drive, Ramsey more than likely rushes for 100+ yards. Ramsey was able to read his options effectively and Scott let his front 5 open holes for him. It was absolutely beautiful to watch. Most importantly, IU was able to run the ball and put Virginia in a lot of 3rd and longs all while the defense pretty much won this game and that will be the mantra of IU football under Coach Allen. -
Kinda, but there's a lot to his story. I don't recall him going as high as 4*. But I could be mistaken. Regardless, I think I understand your point, there's another RB in the waiting if needed. If that's not what you meant my apologies for misunderstanding you.

I thought Ramsey played well. I don't see a reason to bench him for Penix at the moment. The RB position is 4 deep. So I don't think it's as bad as it might look. I think folks like Brookins and Majette will have to step it up. Scott and Walker will more than likely not be red shirted, unfortunately. And by the end of the season Walker might be the guy. And it looks like they're going get Taylor some touches as well. Personally I don't think Taylor as a traditional RB. I see him more as a slot/wing or wildcat. A type of guy you want to make sure he gets the ball out in the open.

Is it me or are the rankings of the Big Ten East schools too high? I think the only legit ranking is OSU. Maybe Michigan. But both MSU and PSU are way too high. At least for now. Just my opinion.

IU QB Dawkins Leaves IU program
Lebowski replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Man, they're back to a depth issue at that position. -
Seems like someone is over thinking the game of basketball. Isn't this concept just a pickup game at your local park? I'd be real surprised if this becomes an actual rule in organizations like the NBA, NCAA and IHSAA. If it does I would push for just playing to a set number and eliminate the game clock all together. You would still have the shot clock and all the "time based" rules would still exists obviously. This rule seems to punish the team winning up to the "final time" of regulation aka the end of the game as we know it.

Honestly, I really don't take that much stock in these rating systems. While they are fun to see and what not it's really about the coaches ability to see player potential/skill set along with player development. And the development part is on both the player and coaching staff. A couple of good recent examples are Cody Latimer (3* with only one offer) and David Kenney (4* with 12 offers). I really like what I'm seeing so far this year in regards to strength and speed development. Now it's up to the other coaches to hone in on their specialty to develop player position. It's seems like a completely different vibe with the entire program this year and I hope it translates into more wins on the field.

Indiana AD Fred Glass sees a ‘big move’ for Hoosier basketball this coming season
Lebowski replied to Dalton26's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I blame Kelvin Sampson for a lot of the heart ache we Hoosiers have gone through. How he's still coaching is beyond me. And this article is just click bait. We all know how well last year's bunch of guys played. They all bought in and got better over the season. I'm really excited to see how they do this year. -
I'm actually a little more optimistic this year than I was last year. Adding another QB with RPO experience really boosted my glass half full outlook. I've mentioned on here before but I think they have a really good chance to start off the season 4-1. And of the other remaining games on the schedule I think there are 4 games (home: Iowa, Maryland, Purdue; away: Minnesota) that might be winnable. And if they can run the ball and stop the run they'll win more than we're accustom to seeing, might even get an upset or two in.

I totally agree. I guess the mantra of "You can't teach/coach speed" is out the window when it comes to Dr. Rhea. Am I wrong? I really like seeing a bunch of defensive players on that list. Surely it will, at a minimum, help with pursuit tackling, right?

Where did Alstott transfer? I'm not finding anything per Google search. -

I'm right with you on this. Hopefully, he's improved on that this off season. He was a Freshman last year. He did have spots of greatness. I think it was the Virginia game last year where he threw a roll out TD pass down field that was impressive? Hopefully, he improves as the years go on.
-
I think the one aspect missing, or I probably should describe as lacked (Ramsey was just too young and injured to get it going), from last year's QB core was the 'R' in an offense that runs RPO. He adds the R to the core because he's proven with experience. He also adds depth to the bunch. If one gets injured there's a next man up with field experience situation here. This overall is a good thing for the team. The Dude abides.

Not that it really matters but I can see IUFB start out 4-1 (home games against Virginia, Ball State and MSU; road games against FIU and Rutgers). After that they have winnable home games against Iowa, Maryland and Purdue. That's 7. And a road game against Minnesota is in the reach. I think this year's success will really depend on two keys; the running game and the running defense. If they can get some 3rd and long situations on D and hold on to the ball on O they have a really good shot at winning a lot more games then we are accustom to seeing. Call me a homer but I have a really good feeling about this season. I could be wrong because we are talking about IUFB here but the glass is half full for me.
-
I have a good feeling about this. Just the guy CTA is wanting to run the offense. Can't wait to see Coach Ballou and Dr. Rhea get a hold of this guy to step up his RPO! Welcome to Btown QB Dawkins!

What's worse is that Izzo's a small piece to the puzzle of this apparent massive epidemic in East Lansing.

Thanks for sharing. Honestly, I don't have any sympathy for the staff. At some point 'they' have to look in the mirror and look into the eyes of the person looking back at them.
