Fire or ‘Way to Go!’ Tom Allen?
Lebowski replied to Hoosierfan2017's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Every year I torture myself with Hoosier football. And every year by mid-season I go into my find a corner and curl up into a ball mode. I think every year I say, "This is the year for 8 wins or better." But this year something changed. I went into the season a bit more realistic. My thoughts prior to the start of season was, likely won't make a bowl. Probable? Yes. Likely? No. I'm actually enjoying watching the games this year because my expectation are way low. I was pleasantly surprised with how close the MSU was. Sucked to see them lose but my expectations didn't really cause me to get upset about the loss. Currently, they already have 4 wins with 2 to 3 games to where they actually have a solid chance at competing for a win. The remainder of the games on the schedule I expect a loss and hope they'll be competitive, but not expecting they will. I hope it works out for CTA because I think if it does, he's gonna stick around (Because we all know IU football is a stepping stone for coaches, much like a MAC school.). And IU football needs stability for it to be a solid consistent competitor. Defining solid consistency for me is almost where the program is at. In the current structure of the Big Ten divisions getting 3 wins in the conference every year is consistent for a program like IU. -
https://www.ourlads.com/ncaa-football-depth-charts/depth-chart/indiana/90728 I'm sure this will change and get updated as needed. I would also imagine a lot of the younger guys will be fighting for 2 and 3 spots. And some of them actually getting a lot of playing time. Because we all know injuries happen. They're a young bunch. I hope CTA can get some quality wins and have them playing in December or January.

I thought that band was from Illinois?

Take it easy, man. I'm not trying to come off as a jerk. If I did, then I apologize. I completely understand coaches have their reasons for recruiting a kid over another. They get paid the big bucks to do that. Us spectators just sit back and speculate, usually over a beer or white russian.

According to his Hudl profile he runs a 4.5 40. Boone's 24/7 profile has him running a 05/05/2019 verified result 4.81 40. If those stats are correct/verified I would venture to say "speed" isn't the reason.

The kid's got a motor and is a bowling ball to boot. And from what I understand he puts in the work to get to that motor going and bowling ball rolling. Not sure if he'll end up at IU or some other B1G school but I do wish he and his family the best of luck during his recruiting process and final season at New Pal.

2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves

That would be awesome. Throw in Coleman and I'd be a very proud homer! But unfortunately I don't think the Colts need a RB. They just signed WR Devin Funchess for a one year deal and I think they're in the market for a pass rusher and a safety.

15 losses Texas won't get in. They face Kansas. Florida has the same win-loss record as IU and the only win (not plural) worth a darn is then #13 LSU on the road. Ole boy from ESPN has FL as a 'Last Four Byes', not only in but with a freakin' bye? The more I look at ESPN's analogy the better I feel about IU's chances of dancing.

IU Football 2019 Recruiting Class

Or you can add Jack Tuttle to the 2018 class. Which I did and that class jumped from 49 to 42. -
Indiana Hires Kalen DeBoer as new offensive coordinator

Best of luck to IU OC DeBoer! -
Missed free throws.

The Dude abides. Yeah, I have a feeling this coming season is a make or break for CTA. If he doesn't get his team to a bowl I think he'll be on the hot seat. No pressure, right? LOL!

I agree. And Harrell is someone that might be able to open up a recruiting pipeline to the state of Texas and Oklahoma. I think this hire is going to be multi-factor hire, meaning not only an OC but also a potential of opening up a recruiting pipeline. I'm not opposed to Canada at all. I do think however that will limit the potential to open up a recruiting pipeline IU hasn't really been able to crack. Exciting times for IU football. Hope this hire turns out to be a good one.

LOL! Slim to none but a sorry sap like myself can dream, man! I will say that DeBord was earning a half mil. The QB coaches at Bama or Clemson are actually a possibility. Albeit a long shot but certainly not out of the question. Also, Glass has told the IndyStar that he "prioritizes continued investment in football, and support for Allen wherever necessary." And he's going to pony up some cash for both David Ballou and Dr. Matt Rhea. So, I think it's not too much of a stretch to grab a guy like Brandon Streeter (He's currently earning $455k.) who is not only a QB coach with an OC background but also has recruiting coordinator under his belt. If you recall he landed Indiana's Hunter Johnson. So he's already pretty familiar with the state of Indiana's high school layout.

OK, if Sam Story is correct about CTA looking outside to fill the OC job what candidates would be on your list? I noticed someone throw out Cam Cameron. I'd like to hear about others. The Daily Hoosier threw out some interesting names. Personally, I'd like to see a guy from Clemson or Bama come in.

IU Football 2019 Recruiting Class
Lebowski replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Honestly, I'm not that surprised. He's a Hoosier, an ex-IHSAA football player and an ex-HC at one of the most prominent high school football program in the state. And of the IHSAA high school football coaches I've spoken to, they say they really like what they are seeing in Btown and enjoy his open door policy. Bottom line, he's a character guy that relates. And if, if, he succeeds at IU it's quite possible he doesn't ever leave IU. -

Hope it works out for Tuttle. Here's an article covering his sudden mid-season departure from Utah. https://www.sltrib.com/sports/utah-utes/2018/10/18/why-is-celebrated-qb-jack/ -

The question I have is why did he leave the Utah team in mid-season? -
Is it me or does Robert Phinisee always seem to be in the right place at the right time during big time situations? The last two or three games I have noticed #10 making some really important plays during key moments in the game. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

ALLEN thinking of turning over defensive coordinator duties to someone else.
Lebowski replied to iubb's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I don't have a dog in this fight but it should be noted that since DeBord has been the OC the deep passing game dramatically dropped. And here's a good breakdown of the 2017 year Ramsey had when he was splitting time with a guy that had "better arm strength" down field (whatever that means). http://puntjohnpunt.com/2018/08/30/7584/ The article points out what exactly it means to have "arm strength" regarding the deep ball. Having touch and accuracy is vital to the deep ball and I think we all can agree that Ramsey has both of that. Otherwise his short passing game would be awful. I think what Ramsey lacked last year was velocity. This year I saw an improvement with all categories regarding the deep ball tangibles. Especially with velocity in the intermediate passing game. (Y'all remember that 15 yard zing to Whop that went 65 yards to the house against MSU?) And I wouldn't be surprised one bit if his intermediate passing game this year improved compared to last year. A good example was his very first TD pass this year was an 18 yard intermediate pass that was placed perfectly to Donavan Hale (Something he didn't accomplish in the 2017 season). -

And all those stats were accomplished as a sophomore. There's a lot of potential upside here for Ramsey to a good play caller, manager/coach and overall leader on the football field. And if Penix manages to surpass Ramsey than I only see that as a win-win for us IU football faithful! My biggest worry is Penix wanting to transfer elsewhere.
