For superstitious reasons I won't open the "Can the Hoosiers go dancing?" thread, so sorry if already posted. I saw this tweet, can't help but wonder how it affects things. https://twitter.com/kylamb8/status/1104793214463234048
  3. Agree. Feels like we're not talking about it enough, and I'm trying not to read into it. I'm not worried. I think Archie can develop as a coach just like players can develop over the years. But the disparity yesterday was remarkable. Also, 3 walk-on roster spots are opening up. It will be interesting to see how Archie fills them.

Probably referring to Creighton, no? And weren't they already mentioned at one point? You know WayneFleek is perusing these threads, sweating and itching to break his vow of silence to drop a giant "I TOLD YOU SO."
  7. Nah. We send that stuff to recruits all the time. Everyone does.

    IU basketball becoming irrelevant

Rampant cheating? It is weird that we have this conversation, and it's taboo to mention the sustained success gained through cheating. If I recall, the text messages by Sampson would have been legal were he not already on probation from his previous job, and the bigger issue was that he was not forthcoming during the investigation. Indiana did nothing to cheat, pay recruits, anything. The phone calls/texts were impermissible only as to Sampson. As we've seen, the self-sanctions meted out by IU were worse than anything that has happened to those other schools, despite their transgressions being several orders of magnitude worse. Why can an article like that be written without specifically referencing what we know of how Self builds a roster? Or the academic sham that UNC had going? (Gonna whine here...) It's not fair. And seriously, I get that it's been 30 years since our last championship. Do you know what you get if you earn a banner every 30 years? Blueblood status. Kansas is at 3 in what, 80 years? I can do averages. They won in 52, 88, and 08. Separated by 36 years and 20 years. UCLA has a record 11, but 10 of those came from that window when we lumped coaching praise on Wooden for the team that Sam Dilbert (Edit: err... Gilbert. Leaving it.) purchased. Why isn't that mentioned? UCLA has one otherwise, in 95. Duke is the hotness right now, but it was done under one coach. Kentucky, an impressive program, besmirched their name when they hired Calipari. Anyway, we might be the worst blue blood you've ever heard of... but you have heard of us. Meaning at least we still get mentioned. Our program is still insanely valuable. This year has really been a kick in the nuts. Everybody is ready to let us back in the conversation. Then we go on a little 7 week siesta. Proper respect to everyone else holding their tongues on this. "But we don't cheat like all the others" is definitely an excuse. But sometimes the excuse is the reason, or part of it. I've read many times that we'd have won big with Sampson. Maybe/probably. But the same athletic department everyone seems to revile also made the call that Indiana will run a clean program. At the end of the day, I'm okay with that. Things might be changing. One-and-dones are ending. FBI stepped in where the NCAA wouldn't, and might clean it up a little (it will never be perfect). We might have one of the great young coaches (TBD), at a time when Duke/UNC/KU/UK are likely closer to a transition. We even got rid of some drop ceilings. Maybe we're set up nicely for the future, and can enter a new era with our integrity--and blueblood status--intact.

    Can the Hoosiers go dancing?

Even if that's true, somebody is writing and tinkering with the algorithm. Haven't they refused to share the algorithm so far? Passing it off like some robot names the field is disingenuous. Hard to say if I'm fully behind the NET rankings until I see who gets in this year. By which I mean, I'll fully support the NET rankings if Indiana gets in.

Awesome, will do. I've done the Adena Trace trail before around Brookville. Sounds like maybe I can do some fishing and backpacking in the same trip.

Nonsense! I grew up on Morse. Through middle school I had a 10' aluminum boat with a 10hp Johnson. It was so light that it just floated over everything. You can learn to catch a wake or strong wave and literally ride it like you're surfing and get where you're going much faster. These days I'm trying to get into fly fishing. I do a decent amount of backpacking, and got a Tenkara rod to take along. It's a 13' collapsible rod, with equally long line, and no reel. I haven't tried it yet, but people supposedly love it. Personally, I'm not going to eat much fish out of Morse. Too much gasoline, fertilizer, and pesticides. Indiana stocks certain waters with trout, so I'm going to see if I can't hunt down some good spots. By chance, do any of you know of a spot accessible only by hiking in? Map/compasss/GPS coordinates are fine or even preferred.
  16. Meh. It's a victimless crime. I'm sure it will come to a happy ending.

    Team Chemistry Issues?

There's a fairly well known Harvard study about the net detriment caused by productive employees that are toxic. So even though Green or Smith may produce from time to time, the negativity weighs down the entire team. I'm pretty pro-player in all situations. But at this point, we are a losing program. Justin "Low-Light Reel" Smith doesn't play for the team. Devonte showed promise, but has never been good. I have heard people fault Juwan, saying he's just not a good leader. I think he is a very good leader. But what can you do with an attitude issue like what Green or Smith have? Is it really Juwan's fault? What if Archie is a top 15 coach, but he just HAPPENED to have two program-tanking attitudes to deal with on his initial two rosters. Is it possible? I think we're all hoping so. Last night I heard a rumor that Green has been outwardly hateful towards Romeo for most of the season, doesn't even make attempts to hide it. I've told before of the HH dunk contest, when Romeo won basically on his celebrity rather than dunks, and Justin Smith was downright ugly about it. He has some resentment. Our class balance will be off. If Archie's system takes 3 years to implement, does it reset every time we lose the upperclassmen? Those of us supporting Archie see the same things as the guys whining for him to get canned. At this point, I'm hoping that the Smith/Green theory is true, and that the removal of those guys will cure the chemistry issues. And otherwise, this 3pt shooting MUST be an anomaly. Some of these stat-lines are laughable. When I saw Cline hit two of those off-balance 3s last night, I was mostly just envious. Everyone already knows, the loss of an effective perimeter game is worse than just the missed shots, it's the resultant defenses packing the lane. For now, I'm going with the Job theory. God himself is testing Archie. He cursed him with plagues of attitudes and poor shooting. Struck him down with concussions and blood clots and stretched thumb ligaments and deep thigh bruises. Caused droughts of confidence. Even blessed him with a Romeo just to have the team smite his success. Archie didn't have one good season at Dayton. He had many. Do we really think Archie isn't as good as Mark Turgeon or Tim Miles or Franimal? No way. I graded out Archie as a C last year, and took some flak for it. This year has been arguably worse. And I'm still rocksteady in Archie's corner.

(2019) SF Trendon Watford to LSU

Trendon, prepare to be the most popular kid in Indiana!
  19. If he chooses Kentucky, let's hope the fanbase can keep it classy. Getting ugly about it won't bring back Keion, and won't help us land any other recruits, either. I know USPS says that a team's record doesn't matter to recruits. But man, there's some bad energy around this team right now. I don't think too many people will fault Keion too much. Sure would be nice to get some good news on Jerome Hunter.
  20. Keion to DePauw?!?! Heeeeeellllllll yyeaaaahhh!!! I'm a proud Tiger. Back in 1998 none other than Brad Stevens rushed me to join ATO. I pledged Phi Psi instead, 'cause that Brad guy seemed maybe a little too nice. Can't say the DPU facilities are great. No one goes to the basketball games. No NBA scouts. No athletic scholarships. If there are bagmen I never met them. Most people think your school is in Chicago, and you let them because it's better than Greencastle. But yeah. Keion should definitely stay local and go to DePauw. I mean, there's at least one guy in the NBA from DePauw, right? Definitely follow him.
  21. For what its worth. Both guys put this out today. Keion then also posted similar edits for the other 3 schools.
  22. It doesnt concern me too much that Brooks is visiting other schools. Let him visit, enjoy the process. I dont think it's a huge indication of anything. That Culver game sounds incredible. Galloway will have to bounce back, that's tough. I was at the Carmel/ Warren Central game. Carmel jumped out early and stayed there. Carmel is very good. Their guards were aggressive. Let the Brooks thing play out. No reason to freak out.

    Injury Updates

Agree with your take on CAM's discussion of injured guys and playing time. As much as I want to know what's going on, that's probably the best way to handle it. No reason to put a guy down and say he's not ready to play. No reason to expand on injuries to the guys, possibly even running afoul of HIPAA junk. And no reason to let the opponent have an idea what to expect. Heaven forbid we tip our hand and then get handled for the first 5 minutes of the game.... Wasn't Tom Brady listed on the injury report for over 3 years without missing a game? Maybe Archie is channeling his inner Belichick.
