I just thought we could seperate the two entities. I understand most people's filter coming here is "I'm so sick of Woodson/play style/whatever else" --- I just don't think we have to proclaim it in each post to have a discussion on the talent we seem to hopefully be adding.

See I don't agree. It's the accepted biggest issue amongst Indiana fans, yes.
Relying on Walker, Cupps, Gunn, Banks, Leal for long stretches (even though multiple of those guys were alleged 4 stars), MM a FR, brand new role for TG/MR, and then your 24yr old PG is a complete idiot and can't stay healthy.. completely combats the "Indiana was uber talented last season" myth.
You aren't sure if Ballo, Rice, KC, Hickman/Conwell, and Tucker move the needle?
With the group I've listed-- we'd have 7 guys on our roster that have all avged 11p or more in a season at the D1 level, plus a McDs AA.
Yes the pieces have to fit.

He had an elite 7-8 game stretch his first year and then was terribly inconsistent/unavailable outside that. Can't have that out of your PG.

I'm truly hoping Jakai is fully rehabbed and he'll be in the regular rotation.  He can be a very special player.

Not sure about that. When TJD and Ware both credit Woodson for getting them prepared for the league, and with the way TJD has played, there is a story that can be told.
A big who has NBA aspirations has to pay attention to what he’s been able to do with those guys

Many, many, many former IU players (from RMK through Woody’s days) never turned into impactful players but your two examples are admittedly two of the biggest head scratchers ever.
When Priller committed I was 99.9% sure he wouldn’t work out, without ever having seen him play, simply because his only other offer was from Incarnate Word. A 6’9” forward from Texas, a state with 13 D1 men’s basketball schools, and his only offers were from IU and Incarnate Word???? LOL.
As bad as Priller was he probably would have made six figures a year in NIL cash at IU.

RMK also had guys, like every other coach, that never “developed”.
I read an article in which some head coaches stated they hoped 1/2 of their recruits ended up making some sort of impact.  I wonder how many other fan bases are so focused on their 9-12th guys development and playing time?  Some guys just aren’t good enough.

In a podcast with Coyle he mentioned offering to help with shooting but the staff wasn’t interested. Leary has said MM has by far the best stroke on the team and that it was apparent the very first time he saw MM take a single jumper. Called it perfect form.
Claimed he could have quickly helped Gunn and Cupps as they each have, according to Leary, minor, easy to fix issues with their shots.

I think Todd said he would love to help with shooting, but Woody has never talked to him.

Give me Rice at the point, Conwell or Cade Tyson (Belmont 45.4% from 3 and averaged 16.2 ppg) at the 2.
    PG - Rice (Portal)
SG - Conwell or Tyson (Portal)
SF - Mgbako and Tucker (5 star recruit)
    PF - Reneau
    C - Payne and/or Williams (Portal)
Bench: Galloway, Cupps, Leal, Humrichous (portal) and the D-2 player of year

On a good Big Ten team he should be 9th or 10th man. I don't think that is a stretch.

I agree with that as our greatest need now, which is the exact same need we had this time last year, is to upgrade the perimeter. I really like both Gallo and Cupps but ideally they would be our 6th and 9th guys.

It's not relevant whether he was "his recruit" or not.
But no, there is no way to argue TG was better last year, than this past year.
    11p vs. 7p
5a vs 2a ... he was better to significantly better this past season, compared to last.

You also have to “buy” high school kids and the payoff is that 40% or so of them end up transferring.
I’d  prefer a combination of high school and portal guys.
In regards to your take that he did not focus on high school kids….we offered a lot of guys (Liam. Boogie, Queen…according to 247 we offered 32 guys) and spent quite a bit of time on some of them.  Did the staff fail with the HS recruiting? Yes indeed but you imply they didn’t go after HS kids.

You twist things to an amusing degree.
I didn’t say he was successful but rather was pointing out that your “take”, that Woody only cares about one and dones rather than guys that can be developed, was severely flawed.

This isn't the bash Mike Woodson thread. If you want to do that, take it to the appropriate place. Writing off Gabe Cupps after a single year after being thrusted into a role he wasn't ready for is just silly.
