Yes, sorry. You’re right. I was trying to remember if he qualified. Think he signed either a Big 10 or national letter but got enticed to NAIA Gardner Webb -

Don’t think he has been offered yet, and don’t think new coach would be bound by interim assistant recruiting -
Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

Don’t doubt Chris heard something at all, and I am not questioning Braden’s ability. I just think it’s highly doubtful that “We“ told him he was a top priority. Who is we? We don’t have a coach. Previous coach had 20 or more offers out. -

His Champagne is kind of interesting -
I think it’s plausible that Adidas might help with funding a buyout to get a strong candidate for one of their flagship brands.

I think that was before RMK thought he could bequeath it to Patrick like he later did At Texas Tech
-
You could be right but Sampson left during the season.

Haven’t we already tried hiring a coach under NCAA scrutiny?
-
I don’t recall in previous coaching searches that the athletic director made a point of announcing that a core of interim staff was being retained. I also don’t recall hearing about it anywhere else. In the past, the time from firing to hiring has only been a week or two. I don’t want to overinterpret and leave myself open for internet abuse, but I thought it was interesting.

I, and the rest of this board, have no consensus on who would be a home run other than Brad. Maybe the Woodson and Smart talk is just a way of addressing the complaints from previous searches that IU guys received zero consideration. I think there is some credibility to the conjecture that it was a purposeful leak to signal the aggressive overtures to Brad. However, I fear the result was merely to create inevitable disappointment with any other choice. Although several excellent coaches are being discussed, there is obvious no transformational hire that meets with universal approval. Still hoping for a left field choice that hasn’t been mentioned. Eric Spoelstra , anyone? He only makes 3m.
-
That would be a huge surprise, but I would never say a bad thing about Mike Woodson. Legend!
-
If Scott Drew and Baylor knock off Gonzaga, we should offer him in appreciation

So disappointed that Brad appeared to use us to sweeten his Boston deal. I felt like he was the only transformational candidate that could make say a Hunter Solis, 5 star uncommitted guard that Kenya Hunter has a relationship with, Chet Holmgren, or transfer Dawson Garcia immediately take notice. Of course, there are other great coaches out there, but I am having trouble getting excited about them. I’m afraid Beard will leverage us for a sweeter deal and others may also. I threw out the name Eric Spoelstra. He makes about 3m and is possibly more highly regarded in the NBA than Brad. He would certainly fit the “modern basketball ‘’ criterion that Dolson mentioned. He just doesn’t have the Indiana connection that Brad had. I agree Archie had to go. He was a lame duck with no recruiting momentum. I hope we are not set up for a series of public courtships to end up with an up and comer that takes us 4 years to assess.
-
How about Eric Spoelstra? He’s supposed to be a basketball savant. Makes half what we supposedly offered Brad. Having trouble getting too excited over the other names being tossed around.
-
I admit that I thought Archie was the best AVAILABLE hire at the time. So disappointed it hasn’t worked out.

(2022) - SG Chris Livingston

He was an early offer and perhaps the highest ranked. Maybe he has little interest -
Hope Al doesn’t leave, Losing a rising senior does little for roster space. Would be hard to find a grad transfer more useful than him.
-
That’s really disappointing. He had a good year and would get major carries next year. Ronnie Walker also gone. Getting thin

I think if he comes this year, he is more likely to stay two years -

(2019) CG - Anthony Harris to North Carolina

RoJos shot drove me crazy. His feet never seemed to land in the same place he jumped from. Often drifted to left but also front tp back and also to right. -
(2019) SF Trendon Watford to LSU

I’m doubtful unless he at least visits -
I have a question about the APR issue. Several have repeated that the Crean recruits had to be retained because of APR. Why if they never enrolled? I thought it was because no one better was available in April 2017. I also heard it was because we had OG, Bryant, Blackmon leave early. Why do U.K. and Duke not have problems? Were our guys not going to class and their players were in good academic standing?
