The non-grad, reversible jacket crowd like the dope above is exactly why this fanbase gets the rap that it does. Living in the 80’s and thinking the world revolves around a program that hasn’t been relevant in 30+ years is silly. And much of our administration thought the same until the vision of Dolson/Whitten. We’re lucky to have them.

I disagree. Throw out the first 3 years of a total rebuild and Crean’s tenure was pretty damn impressive once he got his feet under him. 

How is it wild? Crean basically had two tenures at IU: the first 3 years rebuilding from absolutely nothing without the help of the portal, immediate eligibility, etc and then the 6 year period in which he won the B10 twice and reached the S16 on three different occasions. He missed the tourney after losing 4 starters that won the B10 outright the year prior and in his final year after losing a lottery pick to an ACL injury in early January. And the fanbases/administration said that wasn't good enough. And here we are a decade later where making the tournament is simply a chore. 

We had him in Sampson. Seriously. I fully get he was violating NCAA rules (that went away the very next season) and the player culture in particular (drugs, failing classes) was bad, but we were 24-4 when the administration stupidly fired him and unilaterally destroyed the entire bball program, and as is completely obvious, Sampson is one of the best coaches in DI ball and has single-handedly turned U of Houston into a perennial bball powerhouse. 

Going to the coaching carousel every 3-4 years is how you stay on the merry-go-round for an infinite amount of time. There are so many external factors working against IU, fan base included, that make the hiring process next to impossible. And it gets harder every cycle.

Some coaches are very equipped to win at a mid-major level, but not equipped to win at a high major level.

He should be able to develop a consistent and repeatable process to identify players who can help the program succeed.  That’s what Cig has — production over potential, certain athletic attributes, character traits, etc.  It’s not about finding the best players, but finding the right players.  

Probably because he spent two decades scouting college players as an NBA executive.

Carr is a great addition. 

I think what’s crazy is I think a lot more level headed IU fans and fans who will die on the hill for a coach have turned against DeVries already. Twitter and Facebook tonight is about as bad as the Archie Miller booed in his last game 

I don't think CDD has the fire needed, especially for the Big10.  It seems every other coach has an "ahole" mode.  From the old Franimal to Izzo, to even Collins.  Did you see him when the kid took the hit in the face - he was going to "kill" someone.  Even at the end, he was giving Martinellil the "fk yeah" face.  Not saying CDD has to be a raving lunatic, but at least show you have a pulse.

Agree 100%.  Cut bait if 2 bad seasons in a row in the NIL era.  Get a coach that has something to sell and some enthusiasm.  

I think in addition to Dusty May, we're gonna be lamenting letting Josh Shertz get away. 

Dolson had better not extend his contract after this.

When you have a new hire and a completely new roster and couldn’t generate any buzz you know you’ve got a problem on your hands. 
 
Sucks to throw away another season.  Terrible decisions by all involved.
