And honestly, after 3 years of this, is anyone surprised at Woodson’s lack of effort?

Time to fire his @$$ and move on.

AZ Hoosier reacted to RaceToTheTop in President Whitten - 2024 Faculty No Vote
Oh, I agree there can be some overlap.  But if you look at the details of the arrangement I think you can see why the BOT withheld the information:
former president McRobbie was paid I’ve $588,000 for six months of ‘consulting’ to President whidden.
if you search public governmental salaries, President whidden’s salary is $829K.  That means McRobbie was getting paid more during his six months as a ‘consultant’ than whidden was getting paid as active president.
My gut says McRobbie was definitely not doing much of any real consulting — it was a golden parachute which likely wouldn’t have been legal to do as a governmental institution which is why they classified it as ‘consulting’.
My opinion is that the BOT tried to withhold this information because they knew of the ramifications — in the end it breeds distrust of the faculty toward the new president from the get go.

I think the big thing that is missed is that this is a pretty big Board of Trustees failure...once again.  Kathy with a C can't spin out of this factoid from the article and it shows exactly how the 'group consensus' of the board produces crap.
    -------------------
When an 18-person search committee was charged with selecting IU’s next president in 2020, they narrowed the list to four finalists — none of whom included Whitten. According to Steve Sanders, a Maurer School of Law professor who interviewed people involved with the search, the Board of Trustees rejected all four finalists and chose four new finalists externally, this time including Whitten.
    ---------------------
So in essence, here are the issues REGARDLESS of politics:
-- the search committee produces four names and the BOT chose to ignore it completely.  If you want to stay in good graces with the people you are working with, you don't simply wholeheartedly ignore their entire work.  Horrible, horrible PR and sets whoever they do hire up for an immediate adverse relationship.  Better move:  keep one or two names from the original list and add your own to a list of finalists.
--  the BOT then violated public access law by failing to produce documents in a timely manner that should have been available through the freedom of information act.
--  Part of the documents they tried to hide indicate that former president McRobbie was paid over $500,000 for 'consulting' work for Whitten in the first six months of her job.....to those involved in the original search committee, this says to them that the BOT chose to ignore candidates they recommended and chose a candidate who wasn't qualified and needed a half a million dollars worth of training.
So to me this says the no confidence vote for Whitten is really a no confidence vote in the procedures that the BOT has adopted.  Sure, there are politics at play but it goes beyond disagreement between the president and staff.

Yowza.  So I guess we are way beyond playing for the name on the front instead of the name on back?  Now we're playing for Ben Franklin.  :)
I know it's reality, but I think it takes something away from the game.

One of my concerns is that the NIL money was provided to prop up Woodson. It's widely known that the Cooks and the Simons are big Woodson fans, so they pony up the extra to get the NIL over the hump for him. I'm genuinely curious if they continue that for who ever is the next coach or if it was just to try to make Mediocre Mike somewhat palatable to the not true fans?

I was even saying positive things the other night and that dude came after me like you wouldn't believe. Like since I thought Woody was terrible last season and should have been fired IMO I'm never allowed to root for IU again. I've seen it on here in the Indiana interest thread. You either follow blindly or you get ridiculed

It's not that I don't hope they get good players, it's just that I realize it's like giving Kobe beef and truffles to a linecook at Sonic that doesn't particularly like doing the daily requirements of his job. Being realistic isn't an "MO."

I just don’t see Woodson doing that. There’s no full court press in the NBA, and that’s truly all Woodson knows (if he truly knows that).

Last year he had no shooters and insisted the game is played inside out. Maybe with some shooters this year he can make it work. But I am not expecting any “rocket surgery” type change of philosophy or style of play.

Let’s get the talent and see what he can do with it. And then make a decision about the future.

Not to be a downer, but these players while they would be nice additions, they are not program changers. None will have the impact of Ware and they are still being coached by the same group that added 2 5 star players last off season and way under produced and are, in there own words, more inside out then...well...everybody.

In all honesty, this unbridled excitement is over first or second off the bench guys at the program IU once was and strive to be.

Again, he’s winning the off season. More stars again in 24-25. But he still needs to go - fire/retire doesn’t make me any difference.

Technically that’s not the rule.  The rule is the player can sell his NIL to third parties.  But like most things with the NCAA it’s been bastardized and had become a defacto slush fund for the coaches.  Which makes it what you say — you can pay players.  :)

I tend to agree. It’s sad, but it’s actually more frustrating that this fanbase just wants a winner to root for. The vitriol from some of those accounts makes me think some of them are directly connected to program to want to get back at people and dunk on people for landing good players. Seriously just dividing the fanbase even more.

I'm not disagreeing with any of this, but this is the exact same staff that put together that poorly constructed roster last season. This is the same staff that rested on their laurels instead of trying to add another guard with the available scholarship.
The square peg/round hole, in my eyes anyway, is the thought from Woody that his job as a coach is not to try to run plays to get his best shooters open. The thought that there is nothing wrong with his offense, defense, strategy, game planning, substitution patterns. My hope is that he has seen enough the last three years to clue him in that what he is doing needs to be adjusted to the college game. My fear is that, regardless of what the record shows, he doesn't see any issues and is willing to go down with the ship proving everyone wrong.
He has said that he wants to win now and bring banner number 6. But, when things didn't go as planned, instead of looking at what is working well and what is not working well and trying to learn from it, his response was to lash out at the fans for expecting too much from him and letting everyone know that he is doing his job. Those two things do not line up. Are you happy with mediocrity or do you want to win championships? Are you trying to get better at your job or is your best course of action to tell everyone you are doing great? Are you results driven or narrative driven?
We know Woody needs a lot of talent for even moderate success, so let's hope he gets it. I see nothing to show me next season will bring any kind of championship unless Woody is willing to put the work in to figure out how to make himself and his team better. If moderate success and getting players into the league every year is good enough, then so be it.
I remember a long time ago, we had a coach who spent the whole summer putting together an offense. I wonder how much time Woody and his staff will spend analyzing and adjusting. The square peg/round hole is that nothing needs to change except work harder.
