I was listening to an IU podcast (Assembly Call) and one of the guest hosts was Galen Clavio from the CrimsonCast… they mention Galen’s YouTube channel that contains video of old Hoosier basketball games, Hoosier football, and some IUBB Senior Night speeches (and a bit of non-IU content) … definitely worth your time to dig through his video library...

Davis got to the Finals with inferior talent (compared to Crean). Crean had superior talent (2 of top 4 lottery picks) and burned out at the Sweet 16.

Having watched my father-in-law and my mother battle dementia, I suspect some of the bad memories are simply fading away and as they fade, the animosity he's exhibited is also fading.  It is a painful process to watch someone slowly withdraw into their own private little world.

Both the university and athletic department have tried to bury the hatchet for years... but Knight has always rebuffed the attempts at reconciliation by being an @$$. I hate what dementia and Alzheimer's disease do to a person, but all of the hate has been on Knight's side. He has been invited back multiple times for a chance for the university and athletic department to honor him and bestow love/praise/honor on him, but he's carried too large of a grudge to allow that to happen.
Glad to see that, for whatever reason, he is showing signs of being willing... but don't attempt to spin this any way except that it's been on him.

    Well. THAT was brutal.
They don't deserve a slot at the dance... and it would probably just provide IU with another opportunity to embarrass themselves...
Hated for J-Mo's career to end that way, but it is what it is.

IMO, Indiana basketball has become irrelevant because the administration wants it to be irrelevant. After RMK, the powers that be have chosen to never put the university in the position of being a basketball program with a university. RMK and the program in the '70s and '80s was just that... and some argue that Knight's success allowed his boorish behavior to rule the day. When John Ryan left IU, so did any aspiration for a successful blue blood basketball program.
The ADs since that time have also been content with making money and being "decent". Clearly they have the ability to focus on the program, and simply have chosen not to, again, IMO.

I think this solution is the best if proposed.  Works in baseball...kids have to stay 3 years, I think.   Better for everyone.  If a kid is ready for the NBA, he should be able to go; but "ready for the NBA" has to mean more than a kid can jump or is a man-child.  Can he handle the travel?  The money?  The lifestyle?  The expectations?  The pressure?  There's a lot more to it than just basketball talent; so if the NBA would truly make the D League someplace valuable, they'd wok with the NCAA and provide a place to go for kids who don't want college but truly do have NBA potential.  The biggest problem is so many kids are told they do and they go to college with that in their heads, then have everything fall apart for them and end up in Europe or Asia playing ball.   Which is fine, but it's not the NBA.

The program being in ashes is a Fallacy pushed by Crean to buy himself plenty of time with no expectations. By his third year he could have fielded a competitive team and instead he went 12-20 and 3-15 in the BIG (Losing one more game than the year prior). IMO without the Zeller commitment, he gets fired after 2012. The BigTen Championship in 15-16 and the UK win in the tourney was nice, but I would gladly have traded that in for a gamble on a new coach after the 2013-2014 season. For example if we hire Archie after the 2013-2014 season we have a chance to recruit some top Indiana talent and we wouldn't be looking at missing the Tournament for the third straight year and going through a "rebuild". Had Glass just pulled the plug when he should have, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today. Imagine this roster with Kyle Guy, Kris Wilkes, Romeo, Rob Phin, et al. Now that's a title contender. Crean stayed way too long and once we see his results speak for themselves after 8-9 years at Georgia, then hopefully everyone can look back on his time here and say, "Yeah, he needed to go sooner"

Such a poor decision by the AD. The writing was on the wall based on both coaching philosophy and roster management, it was evident in 2012-2013 when Crean "Creaned" Matt Roth and Ron Patterson in favor of Peter Jurkin and Hanner Perea. Ya I get the counter argument, but a lot of the fan base thought he was a fraud.

Partially. No one is going to fire someone after three years, especially when you were in the situation Crean walked into, but the warning signs were all there by year 3.

I'm not ready to fire Archie at this point... but with that said, I don't have the stomach for this crap. Crean left the cupboard pretty bare. He recruited kids like Green and Priller and Jobe. He caught lighting in a bottle with guys like Cody... and got lucky with guys like Sheehey and Vic... but there were 10 misses for every time he got lucky... and he left us with only Morgan who would be a vital piece on any team in the country, but we're leaning on him like he's the savior of the program because there's no one else...
Yeah, Archie got us Romeo, and next year we'll have TJD... and I get it that kids get hurt, but what about the strength and conditioning? Isn't that supposed to help against injuries?
I'm tired of the Michigan guys I know laughing at our crappy 0-17 start AT HOME. And losing to Nebraska, and Rutgers and Northwestern. And losing four in a row in our house. Bottom line: this crap has to end. Show some damned pride.
