Well, someone needs to temper this discussion with a dose of reality. Thanks @IUEyeDoc
  2. Again, he’s winning the off season. More stars again in 24-25. But he still needs to go - fire/retire doesn’t make me any difference.

I just don’t see Woodson doing that. There’s no full court press in the NBA, and that’s truly all Woodson knows (if he truly knows that). Last year he had no shooters and insisted the game is played inside out. Maybe with some shooters this year he can make it work. But I am not expecting any “rocket surgery” type change of philosophy or style of play. Let’s get the talent and see what he can do with it. And then make a decision about the future.

Not sure anyone's used "3 point shooter", "larger volume" and "Woodson's system" in the same sentence. Ever.

It is. It’s only been 29 months. [emoji2962]

I don’t have a problem with getting a kid that fills a need via the portal. Let’s do that every year. My issue is a staff of coaches that don’t/won’t recruit throughout the year then rely on the portal to build a team. The latter describes the efforts of the current coaching staff. In spades.
  7. I was thinking the same thing.
  8. Yeah, buddy! Looking forward to winning another off-season and then another epic fail when "the ball is tipped". BTW, the reason Woodson performs better in the off-season/portal season rather than the recruiting season is the amount of work required. Just dangle a big paycheck and wait for them to show up. None of that pesky relationship building stuff.
  9. Are you saying that if someone buys Woodson an upgraded back court" he will be able to coach that team to some sort of success? What is he doing now? I don't know... golfing? smoking a stogie? drinking wine? He hasn't signed a single portal player yet, and wouldn't even be in consideration for any without the Cooks and Simons money.
  10. The best indicator of future performance is past, relevant performance. In 3 years with what ever talent Woodson "recruited" or inherited, he made the play-in game once and got blown out in the round of 64, and then won the round of 64 and got wasted in the round of 32. And then he didn't make the tournament at all this past season. Show me where the "shock and awe" are. I hope he gets talent. And then I hope he figures out what to do with it. Just remember, it's one thing to buy a team with the checkbooks of billionaires. It's quite another to coach said team to anything beyond mediocrity. It's Mike Woodson.
  11. And he still crapped the bed in the NCAAT.
  12. Two words: Coach Woodson.
  13. And even landing players is probably the easiest part of this. With the NIL bankroll, Woodson was going to land some players. But what will he do with this? We've had talent all three years of Woodson's tenure. So far, we made the play-in game, lost in the round of 32, and missed the tournament. Talent =/= success.
  14. I'm confused. If one of the major issues with the current state of Indiana athletics (men's basketball in particular) is the desire to keep the program pick a word - mediocre/marginal/inconsequential, how can there be any legitimate interest in Stevens, Donovan or any other quality coach? There are a number of posts in this thread alone about how screwed up the administration is, and how the post-Knight years will never allow the program to be "bigger than the university". That seems incredibly incongruous with the resurgence of interest in Brad Stevens. And now, William Quinn Buckner, who as BoT chair, has driven the Keep Coach Mike Wooden Express for four years now would suddenly shove Woodson aside for Stevens?
  15. Did you just fire up the rollercoaster again? I ain't riding it this time around.
  16. One of my concerns is that the NIL money was provided to prop up Woodson. It's widely known that the Cooks and the Simons are big Woodson fans, so they pony up the extra to get the NIL over the hump for him. I'm genuinely curious if they continue that for who ever is the next coach or if it was just to try to make Mediocre Mike somewhat palatable to the not true fans?

So, Trilly took that one down? Nice. Par for the course.

Unfortunately, none. But with six openings and Mike Woodson at the helm, with what's left of the $6M, surely they can grab one of those that they are courting/chasing?

Would be a good set to get...but what can Woodson really do with them? THAT jury is still out.

We definitely could stand to have a premier PG with on- and off-court class.
  21. Big NO on Bobby Hurley. Not good at ASU. And we've already done the "brother of a coach" thing with Archie.

Rupp Rafters is pure gold... freaking out about all the "name" coaches turning them down. "If Donovan turns us down, get Pearl" and such. Several posts stating that they'd rather have Calipari than Mark Pope. https://kentucky.forums.rivals.com/threads/can-the-embarrassment-cease.412683/
  24. It was all smoke and mirrors. Just like Matta and Fife. IMO, it was never was going to be something that Woodson would allow. He's busy doing his job.
